Amanda “Mandy B” Baker

Date: Sun, Sep 28, 2008

Mandy Baker, originally uploaded by pokerwire.

Amanda “Mandy B” Baker is 27 years old and a rising poker star. Amanda “Mandy B” Baker admits that the game helped her pay her way through college. The pro, who resides in Las Vegas, NV and quit an internship with a non-profit teaching businesses how to be more socially responsible so she could focus on the game, has won over $150,000 in major tournament events since 2005. This includes her recent first-place finish at the World Series of Poker Circuit in Indiana.

It all started with a friendly visit back in June of 2003. Amanda stopped by to visit a friend, a friend who happened to be watching the WPT. Within a few hours, he had taught her the basics of Hold ‘em and played a few hands with her. That was it – Mandy B had a new passion.

Amanda “Mandy B” Baker won Event #10, a No-Limit Hold’em tournament with a $1,000 buy-in. She played impressive poker, knocking out six out of her eight opponents at the final table alone. Amanda “Mandy B” Baker, who earned $88,368 to her tournament take for the win, loves tourneys because they’re ‘more fun’. However, like many other pros, she finds that cash games, especially in the $5 - $10 limit range, to be more profitable.

Before the win at the WSOPC, Amanda “Mandy B” Baker’s biggest cash was her 253rd finish at this summer’s WSOP Main Event. Amanda “Mandy B” Baker earned over $44,000 for that.

Amanda “Mandy B” Baker, an active environmentalist, proved that she is willing to put her money where her mouth is. She plans to donate 50% of her bank from the WSOPC to environmental groups.

Full Tilt Poker announced earlier this week that they’ve signed this up-and-comer to their growing roster of pros. She joins other newbies such as Julian Gardner, Jared “TheWacoKidd” Hamby, Nikolaus “kaibuxxe” Jedlicka, Jon “PearlJammer” Turner, Peter “Nordberg” Feldman and Peter Jepson.

Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies

Date: Sun, Sep 28, 2008

Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies is from Finland. is one of the most aggressive pot-limit Omaha players around. Coming from Finland and learning poker together with another great player Patrik Antonius can help a lot. Ilari and Patrik met playing pool (Ilari is also a two time national champion in pool) and decided to start playing poker together.

Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies started to go regularly to Helsinkis Grand Casino to lose his money. Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies managed to get money for his new hobby by working at a gas-stations, construction-yards and even as an telephone-operator. First year didn’t go too well - but by the end of the second year he managed to book winnings for around $100,000.

Nowadays we can find "Ziigmund" playing at the highest level of competition. "Ziigmund" can be found regularly playing at the big pot-limit Omaha tables at Full Tilt Poker where the blinds are $200/400. "Ziigmund" will never back down from a challenge - he will play (and has played numerous times) anyone especially heads-up. He has fought with the likes of Phil Ivey and David Benymine.

Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies is dominating the high stakes cash games on Full Tilt Poker as of late, and is currently the biggest winner for the month of September. The volatile Finnish player is up almost $1.9 million dollars for the month of September over a total of 13,869 hands (according to HighStakesDB.com).

With his recent performance, "Ziigmund" has dug himself out of a million dollar plus hole and is now up just over $600k on the year. "Ziigmund" typically makes most of his money from Pot Limit Omaha. September has been no different, as "Ziigmund" has made just over $900k from the high stakes PLO games that have been running on the site. Surprisingly though, Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies has done very well in the high stakes NLHE and Omaha Hi/Lo games, making an additional $900k+ in those two games.

Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies also visited The Big Game this summer - booking some nice winnings. He was playing (of course) drunk and fearlessly. Barry Greenstein complimented Ilari by telling that he thinks Ilari is one of the best pot-limit Omaha players in the world. Many call him also “The Omaha Kid”.

Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies is also quite a characted at the online-tables. He can mock people and tell it straight to their faces - for example calling Gus Hansen “the biggest fish online” or David Benyamine as a “a fat gay guy”.

Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies is also know for favouring coinflips - he tries to get people to do coinflips for huge amounts. Largest were against Phil Ivey when they agreed to do first a series of coinflips for $40,000 each and in the end they went for $80,000 flip.

Quote from Ziigmund: “Playing it safe will never get you to the top. More important is that you have the balls to bet at the right time. If you want to succeed you need to have a gamblers attitude”

Jon "PearlJammed" Turner plays online at Full Tilt Poker. Away from the table, Jon spends much of his time at home in Las Vegas with his girlfriend or travelling to hear his favorite band, Pearl Jam.

Like many other young pros, Jon "PearlJammed" Turner credits Chris Moneymaker with jump starting his career. While still a Computer Science student at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, Jon watched as the amateur Chris Moneymaker defeated established pro Sammy Farha to win the 2003 WSOP Main Event. The characters, drama, and simple fun of the game piqued his interest and soon, he began playing Freeroll tournaments play money games online.

Eventually, Jon "PearlJammed" Turner decided to begin playing with real money, and slowly began building a bankroll by playing low-limit ring game tables, Multi-table tournaments, and Sit & Gos. While he found the online games enjoyable and educational, it wasn’t until he started playing live poker with several of his friends that he truly got hooked.

Jon "PearlJammed" Turner bubbled in his first small live tournament, but walked away with a new-found desire to pursue poker full time. Jon "PearlJammed" Turner quickly became involved in regular games and tournaments around Raleigh and soon quit his job at Circuit City when he began making more at cards than he did in retail.

As Jon's local games grew in size, he realized he might be able to earn a living playing cards. While continuing to hone his skills around Raleigh, he soon began travelling to Atlantic City and Las Vegas where he would test himself against more experienced competition. Again, Jon "PearlJammed" Turner found that he was winning more than he lost, and in 2005, he made the move to Las Vegas to pursue his new-found career.

Jon "PearlJammed" Turner played his first WSOP events in 2005 and finished 18th in the $3K No-Limit event, pocketing $20,000 that helped cement his growing bankroll.

In October 2005, Jon "PearlJammed" Turner discovered high buy-in online tournaments and hasn’t looked back since. Since October 2005, he has won more than $1.6 million as an online tournament pro known as PearlJammed, and has racked up 21 tournament victories on Full Tilt Poker.

Niki "KaiBuxxe" Jedlicka

Date: Sat, Sep 27, 2008

niki-jedlicka-2, originally uploaded by fulltiltpoker.

Niki Jedlicka (Nikolaus Jedlicka) lives in Australia. Niki "KaiBuxxe" Jedlicka was first introduced to poker about three years ago, when he started playing with his older brother and friends. Niki "KaiBuxxe" Jedlicka has established himself as a formidable opponent online and on the tournament scene.

Niki "KaiBuxxe" Jedlicka steadily built a name for himself – and quite a bankroll – playing online under the name "KaiBuxxe". Niki "KaiBuxxe" Jedlicka gained a lot of attention for his performance at the Pot-Limit Omaha tables, playing at the highest stakes games on Full Tilt Poker. He is clearly not afraid to mix it up with the biggest names in the game - going heads-up with the likes of Phil Ivey and Gus Hansen and scoring some big wins.

As his online game developed, so did his interest in live tournaments. Niki "KaiBuxxe" Jedlicka made his first live appearance during the summer of 2006. Since that time, he's made numerous final tables, clearly demonstrating that his prowess extends beyond the digital felt. Niki "KaiBuxxe" Jedlicka took first place in several No-Limit Hold 'em tournaments in Austria before going to the 2007 EPT in Barcelona.

Niki "KaiBuxxe" Jedlicka took 7th place in the €7.7K No-Limit Hold 'em Event and took home over €150K. His overall performance earned him a nomination for the 2007 European Poker Awards "Rookie of the Year".

When he's not playing in live tournaments, Niki "KaiBuxxe" Jedlicka can be found in his native Vienna. He's an avid movie buff and enjoys fine cuisine. Look for him playing online at Full Tilt Poker.

Although Niki Jedlicka is young only 19 years old, he’s been both a millionaire and broke several times over, through online poker. His largest win to date is $2.1 Million in July, playing the 200/400 PLO games as KaiBuxxe on Full Tllt.

Niki Jedlicka got his start playing limit holdem online, moving all the way up to 300/600, which was the highest limits at the time. Then he started playing Pot Limit Omaha on Full Tilt and decided to focus on that game from then on. He actually worked his way up from 10/20PLO to 200/400 simply by taking shots at the higher games. He ran well and then just settled at the top.

Even though Niki plays very well, he’s shown to practice little to no bankroll management or table selection online. You might see lose $500,000 one session, but then win $750,000 the next. So don’t be surprised to see him drop down a couple limits one day to rebuild.

However, despite his lack of game selection, Niki’s loose, aggressive, and fearless playing style loosens up tight tables and creates plenty of action for him. He’s able to control tables by forcing other players to adjust to his style.
