The last month

Date: Sat, Jun 14, 2008 Professional Internet Live Tournament

So I'm just going to list the important things that have happened in the last 30 days instead of writing pages and pages. I am tired of looking at this gray text so I am going to Caroline this post into a multicolored beast.

-UFC 84 was really awesome. I personally loved watching the machida ortiz fight because it was like watching a grandmaster chess player in action but most people probably thought it was boring. BJ Penn basically solidified himself as one of the top 3 mma fighters of all time along with Anderson Silva and Fedor. And Wanderlei is probably going to get a shot at rampage cause he is 2-0 vs him and put out a dominating old wandylike performance.

As for other MMA happenings, I am going to try to go to the Fedor vsSylvia card in anaheim on July 19th. Its going to be a really good heavyweight card. To see just why fedor is so awesome check out the affliction trailer. Basically everyone is trying to be the biggest badass ever and then they show Fedor just standing there.....smiling.

The ultimate fighter this season is really good as there are 2 fighters who could do a lot of damage on the 185 pound division. Jesse Taylor who is one of the funniest people to watch ever is a pretty solid wrestler who could eventually become a top 10 185 guy, and the real beast is CB Dolloway who i think has the potential to be 185 champ. I honestly think that in 1 or 2 years he will be the guy with by far the best chance to beat Anderson Silva of anyone in the division. He might have some trouble against rich franklin and dan henderson stylistically, but hes just an animal anda huge favorite to win TUF 7.

And for a sweet rumor, i hear that Anderson Silva is going to move up to 205 and fight Chuck Liddell on UFC 88 in september. Really really awesome fight that i think silva wins, but chuck is such a beast so he can pretty much win any fight hes in except vs rampage.

And I refuse to even talk about Kimbo slice and his fight which was a complete joke. Elitexc should be ashamed of themselves.

-Tournaments tilt the crap out of me. I've played 6 wsop event so far and have 1 mincash ina 1500 event. I have bet folded or check folded a set FOUR TIMES in the wsop so far and im pretty sure i was right 3 of them and wrong once (but the one i was wrong this random guy made a really really good bluff so i dont mind my fold anyway). Its just frustrating when hands that are supposed to be your biggest money winners lose because the board runs out 34568 with 3 hearts or QJT9.

-I have been to both nobu and naked fish this summer and my meal at naked fish was better and far cheaper. I had never even heard of it til i read raptors blog but i really enjoyed the place and was not devastated when i lost an 8 man credit card roulette there as the bill was only 720 instead of like 2500+ at nobu. Apparently naked fish isnt a chain so it would be a smart investment for some poker players to try to bankroll and franchise it.

-I've lost the 2 biggest dinner CC roulettes this summer. One for 1800 at craft steak which is quite possibly my favorite restaurant in vegas, and the naked fish one. But i cant complain because......

-I WENT TO LA FOR LAKERS VS CELTICS GAME 3. It was really awesome and im pumped about it because ive never been to the finals of any major sport. The game was really fun and pretty close til the end. On the ride there on the bus, i lost 1500 doing $100 8 way o8 flips. I was determined to get back to even and won 400 in random props during the game. In one i got 3-1 that kobe would miss at least one of two free throws from Ben (-bbj-) and he ended up missing both. The other i won a $100 bet vs genius where i took the under on 195 for the game. I also didnt have to pay for my ticket or the food because i didnt lose either roulette.

Five of us (josh, genius, bbj, jesse aka thedegeneral on stars and i) rouletted for our tickets which totaled to about 4500 and josh lost. Josh also lost a 13 man CC roulette for the food we catered at the staples center for 1300. what an insane bad run losing a 5 man and a 13 man back to back. We took a party bus to LA and back and he was almost praying to lose that one for 2600 just so he could complain about it but mike martin lost instead.

-My horses play good and run bad near final tables. So far we have about7 10-27th place finishes in wsop events but no final tables until TODAY. Blair hinkle is tied for the chiplead at the final table of the 2k nl. I like to tease blair a lot cause he punts huge stacks but hes an insanely good player and accumulates stacks a lot, hes really similar to a tournament version of andrew robl. GO BLAIR.

-One of my housemates finally final tabled a WSOP event. We went had a big oh-fer last year but finally got one under our belts. Ben got 3rd in the 5k nl event that mig won last year for almost 300k. He is really really good and is pretty much only known for talking shit on the deuce (twoplustwo) but people are starting to realize hes a really tough player. he basically just gets deep in every tourney he plays and hes probably going to FT another before the series is over. i am putting this paragraph in pink cause hes kind of a sissy and the strikeout king of every nightclub.

-I start brazilian jiu jitsu today. My friends had a lesson a few days ago but i couldnt go cause i fucked up my stomach and couldnt bend over, which is basically a recipe for disaster when you are doing something that is based around your midsection. Im really excited cause ive been wanting to start for about 6 months now and cant wait to feel the pain of waking up tomorrow morning. I am going to mark laimon's cobra kai gym (yes like the karate kid) so in a month or so i will be sweeping legs like a champion and putting people in body bags.

-We went to moon last night which is a decent club, but for some of my degenerate friends it is awesome because they have blackjack tables. I went down to the playboy club with jesse and was his financial advisor at the blackjack table. He was out of his mind drunk and ran 1500 up to 4500 then disappeared. We all went home and had no idea where Jesse was and we were all convinced he either lost it all, was passed out in a gutter somewhere or both. Instead he shows up at 6 am 30k richer from playing craps. What a hero.

Im pretty hungover so no mspaint today but genius has been wanting to make one for a while so one of these days im going to have a guest mspaint appearance from him.

LOL adventures with a random name

Date: Thu, May 15, 2008 Professional Internet Live Tournament

So today was a really big online tourney day. AJKhoosier1 and i decided to swap 5% on any wins over 5k for the day. Since he had a little piece of me he told me a few tourneys to play. Besides just the wednesday 300 on stars, there was the 300 rebuy ftops event on full tilt, the 200 knockout tourney on ub and the 1k on absolute. Ah good old absolute.

Before tonight I had never played absolute poker before. Never even had an account. Just recently a few of my stakes sent me money on UB and you can transfer money from UB to AP so I thought tonight was the perfect time to make a random retarded name and get the benefit of having no image at all. Boy was I right.

First hand of the tourney our hero encounters online tournament player koolkeith. Playing under the fishiest id i could ever come up with (BUSHin08PLZ) i flop a monster the first hand and manage to get it in for 1000bb. Under normal circumstances I should probably be afraid getting 1000bb in against anyone, but for one im up against an online tournament player and we all know how much they hate to fold, and for two i am BUSH IN 08 PLZ the random absolute fish that probably won a satelite to get into this 1k. anyway check out the hand:

I'll just say that stacking off for 1000bb with the nut low trips on the first hand of a tournament, even to a random person on the fishiest site of all is a terrible idea lol. But if i had been on my real name, there is 0 doubt in my mind he probably plays it much slower and probably doesnt stack off.

After this hand i pretty much go on to dominate the entire tournament up to the final table where i end up having an attack of conscience and telling everyone that it was me on the account.

Check out some other gems that came from being on a random name:

RDCRSN is a really good solid online tourney player. Hes had a lot of big scores this year and definitely plays really well. Basically i didnt think AJ was in his calling range pre very often (and unlikely he checks the turn with it), and i thought it was way more likely he was turning a hand into a bluff on the river because of my weak thin vbet than him having exactly 66. He definitely doesnt have a set or 2 pair on the turn cause he would valuebet those on such a drawy board. So I really thought my best bet was to bet thin on the river for value cause he might pay off worse, and once he raised i thought a while and decided a bluff was more likely. Again, I would definitely not be able to pull this kind of shit off on my real name against him.

There were some other hands but i forgot to save more. It was a really really sick advantage i had and when we got to a tough final table of toptizzlepizzle/hemipowerswt/the huntd, amak316, yellowsub, gator93, belowabove, and some other pretty good tourney players i let everyone know it was me. I felt pretty bad about people not knowing it early but I guess i deserve some time on a random name.

I ended up chopping it 3 way for 20k with amak and sub. Now all i can do is hope that my money doesnt get stuck on AP and i made a profitable adventure with my random name experience.

On a serious note id like to say that after playing the tourney today i really got to see all the sick advantages people get by multiaccounting, buying accounts, new names, etc. It was amazing what i could do in just 1 tournament and im by no means one of the best online tourney players in the world. Its kind of sickening to know that people take advantage of the system so much and get away with it. I wish i could go back and start with no image again, but unfortunately i cant and i have to deal with it, as does everyone else. anyways im heading to bed, gnight all.

Hilarious old email, radiohead concert!

Date: Wed, May 14, 2008 Professional Internet Live Tournament

So I was looking through my old sent mails and i came across a real gem:

from Ryan Daut

date Mon, Apr 17, 2006 at 12:46 PM
subject deal reached in 1500 fpp tournament
mailed-by gmail.com

my pokerstars id - Daut44
my name - Ryan Daut

Hi,

I have reached a deal in the 1500 fpp tournament. tournament id 23232379

players are me (daut44)
mortez
davisjj627

please come quick, we have reached agreement. thank you so much,

ryan daut

So back in early 2006 i used to play the 1500 fpp satelites to the sunday mil. they were winner take all and i would get down to hu or 3 handed and id lose my mind and not want to gamble for the 215 tournament dollars so id email support and chip chop them then use the T$ to play small sngs and grind up my cash game bankroll. What a grinder. Pretty hilarious to look back now and see where i was about 2 years ago.

I have decided to go to the radiohead concert in camden new jersey on August 12th. I am really excited for it cause they are my favorite band and ive never been to one of their shows. I suspect most of the show will be based on their newest album which happens to be my favorite. For those of you who havent heard it here are my 4 favorite songs off it (none of which are singles)

Where are they now...Charlie the finger biter edition...and CONTEST!!!!!!!

Date: Thu, May 8, 2008 Professional Internet Live Tournament

I am sure most of you have seen the charlie bit my finger video on youtube. If you havent, check it out:

Charlie is certainly adorable in this video. But we havent seen anything out of charlie in quite some time. Did he retire? Has he moved on to bigger and better things? I actually ran into charlie recently and I have to say you are going to be quite surprised with what has happened to him.

They just grow up so fast. I ran into charlie while walking through the woods where i saw him chewing on a black bear carcass. I highly recommend that if you see charlie coming you run the other way. Watching the movie aliens for any sigorney weaver insider tips is also recommended.

I also have a new obsession: LOLhighdivers. I bet you guys have seen the lolcat pictures they are everywhere. here are a few examples:

I'd Hit it Kitty

Sure the cats are cute enough, but check out LOLhighdivers

So i am deciding to host a contest!!!!!! Basically make a LOLhighdiver picture and the best one wins 50 bucks. Plz feed my addiction. Ill give a few weeks to get some good entries in there. Try and find some new highdiver pictures to use too cause I am sure there are some other awesome ones out there.

Some Incoherent updates about the last month

Date: Thu, May 1, 2008 Professional Internet Live Tournament

Europe was pretty awesome. After san remo, martine, genius, -bbj- and i went to rome for a few days which was a lot of fun. We went to the pantheon, the coliseum, the vatican and had a few nice dinners. I wish we could have stayed a few extra days to really explore more of the city but I'm at least glad to have seen a few places. I also need to spend some more time in Italy. Brandon Schaefer, Carl Olson and Dani (ansky from 2p2 aka supernova9 aka super hero to railbirds around the world) went to milan, cinque terra and florence which are 3 places i would love to go at some point.

On a sort of tangent to being in italy, i bought this learning italian program called berlitz and im trying to put in a few hours a week. I considered picking up spanish again (i took 5 years of it in high school and middle school) but i decided to try out italian first and then go back and learn more spanish in the future. I can read semi proficiently in spanish but i cant really speak it very well, and i suspect i will be the same way in italian in a few months of practice.

After rome, we flew back to the nice airport and then headed to monte carlo. It was a really beautiful place but i didnt really enjoy being there. The food was extremely expensive (example: hamburger costing 25 euros, which is roughly 40 dollars) and mediocre at best. The service was horrendous as the people in monte carlo dont really cater to non french speaking people. There wasnt a whole lot to do besides being at the casino or in the hotel. There were a few clubs i could have gone to but i didnt bring any appropriate attire with me and im not much of a club person to begin with so it ended up being a sort of boring trip. On the bright side of the trip, i had a piece of martine in the monte carlo main event and he finished in 5th place for 660k so it became a profitable trip based on that. Mike's style is really perfect for european tourneys and him going deep was not a surprise. Here is a pretty agonizing picture of him when he was all in with QT on a T76 board against JJ:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/staff/Daut/mikeinmc.jpg

After europe i came home fully intending to get a solid month of working out, learning italian, and grinding online in with no more live tournaments. But right before the wpt championship started, Chris Bush (bushman) won the 5k event for 330k and i again had a nice little piece of him in there, so i decided i was basically freerolling the 25k and at the last minute flew out to vegas to play it.

The image “http://www.liquidpoker.net/staff/Daut/bushatbellagio.JPG” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

I played really really bad in the 25k. Im fairly disappointed in how i played in monte carlo as well. I'm ok with it because at least i am recognizing the errors im making and will improve on it in the tournaments over the summer but it really frustrates me to look back at those two tournaments and see all the mistakes i made, especially when they are 2 of the 3 biggest tournaments of the year. I have to work on my concentration and stop making really bad bluffs that never work live as well as some other things. I'm sure ill have it worked out over the summer but its annoying to think that i wasted 2 great opportunities in the last month.

Since being home ive been working out every day and eating well. I am doing a 3 day workout schedule of chest/triceps day 1, back/biceps day 2, and shoulders/legs day 3. I have also been running, jumping rope, doing some ab work and riding the bike most days. I really want to get in my top shape before the summer because I am starting brazilian jiu jitsu over the summer with mig, nazgul, pooruser and a few other friends. I am really excited to start a new sport that I have a lot of interest in. I feel like its going to be kind of hard for me because my athletic limitations are some of the most important for this sport, such as flexibility and good endurance. but im going to give it my all and hopefully ill turn into a pretty sick bjj guy in a couple of years =)

Speaking of MMA, I am going to UFC 84 in vegas on may 24th. It's going to be one of the best cards ever with sean sherk vs bj penn, machida vs ortiz and wandy vs jardine as the 3 main fights. 8 of us are flying out to vegas a week before the series starts to go see it. check this site out:

http://84.ufc.com/

really cool hype of ufc 84. it shows clips hyping up the 3 main fights and has lots of videos about each of the 6 fighters, showing highlights of some old fights and their training regimens. def worth looking at all the stuff if you are an mma fan.

anyways gotta run, lost is starting. this season is so fucked up but so intriguing. if you guys have never watched it, here is enough incentive to start:

Awesome MMA interview with urijah faber

Date: Mon, Apr 14, 2008 Professional Internet Live Tournament

So Urijah faber is probably the 2nd best 145 pound mma fighter in the world and is one of my heroes. (On a side note, when arbianight fought mma he actually fought against faber and took him to a decision! he is also a hero of mine, check out his fighting profile: http://www.sherdog.com/fightfinder/fightfinder.asp?FighterID=4873 )

Anyway, the interview is a couple years old but it is Faber talking about a sick sick street fight he had when he was in Indonesia. Definitely a must see. The description of the fight starts at 1:55 if you dont want to watch the beginning

Enjoy!!!

Some Updates

Date: Wed, Apr 2, 2008 Professional Internet Live Tournament

The month of march finished pretty well for me. I did really well in my week out in omaha and won about 35k and recovered from my retardo downswing i had at home in between LAPC and omaha. I always seem to do insanely well in omaha, in about 20 days there total im up around 85k. i guess i should consider living there year round.

I was home for a couple days and since i had to cash out a lot of money to pay my taxes i had a really short stars roll and started grinding 2/4 full ring. its pretty hilarious and somewhat demoralizing to be playing 200/400 one day, go on a decent upswing there and then be grinding stakes 1/100th the size seriously. im pretty sure im probably the only person in the history of poker to do such a thing.

On sunday night i fly out of new jersey to paris, then fly to nice, then took a train to san remo for the EPT event here. I have to say i cannot love this place anymore. The food is amazing, everyone is really nice here, the weather is great, its a really beautiful place to be in and the women are awesome. not much more to ask for. genius and i made an agreement that if either of us won the tournament we are buying a place here. the agreement was actually on a villa, but i have no idea what a villa is except that its really expensive, so im just going to call it a place for now.

Day 1 of the tournament went ok. i ended the day with 36k. i played pretty well for most of the day but terrible for my standards in the last level cause at that point i had been up 24 hours straight and was exhausted. i made 2 or 3 really sketchy plays that i wouldnt normally make and im pretty angry about how it worked out.. anyway im probably slightly above average going into day 2 so i cant complain too much. ill post about the 1 hand i think i might have butchered but is actually a semi interesting spot because it was the last hand of the day later after i have more time to think about it and maybe talk with the player it was against.

Since i didnt bring a digital camera ill just post some pictures from the pokerstars blog and google of some of the views ive had in italy:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/staff/Daut/royalhotelpool.jpg

This is a view of the pool and view we have looking out into the sea. this is a view from a hotel room so its basically exactly what we see when we look out our window

http://www.liquidpoker.net/staff/Daut/shoreline.jpg

this is the view of the coast along the mediterranean. the train ride from nice to san remo rode all along the coast so i just sat there staring out at the sea the entire time. its really something else.

http://www.info-sanremo.com/images/sanremo.jpg

a view of the city from the sea

ill try to get a hold of a digi so i can take some better pictures and post some of the shops and alleys we've been walking around on (and pictures of the food!)

I love dutchies!!!

Date: Wed, Mar 26, 2008 Professional Internet Live Tournament

So an awesome dutchy named Webjoker who works for pokernews.nl made a comic strip about me and isaac haxton playing hu at the pca. its pretty funny, ill copy paste the images over to here for the lazy out there.

ike is pretty much the man and has probably improved more than any player in the last year with the exception of maybe raptor. it was a really fun hu match to play and exciting to watch on tv when 2 people who are playing aggro and well go up against each other instead of the usual tv final tables.

i need to get out to the netherlands one of these days and drink with my tall cow loving brothers.

Made a video!

4 tables of 2/4 full ring on stars

Overall i played well and i think had some good commentary but there were 2 or 3 mistakes i made that i really wish i hadnt. but its ok, after the video goes up ill talk about 2 or 3 of the situations more in depth on here.

in other news, migs roommates are my heroes. blair (blur5f6) hinkle has been destroying every live tourney he has played i definitely owe him an mspaint.

migs other roommate blake (ballab13) cahail just got 3rd in the wynn classic for 177k after final tabling 3 events in council bluffs last month. pretty heroic run for him. he won the sunday mill a few months back and followed in the immortal footsteps of mig, shown in the following picture by my favorite photoshopper byrnesam:

0 attention span

Date: Sat, Mar 15, 2008 Professional Internet Live Tournament

I have absolutely 0 attention span right now and i cant figure out whats going on. Every session i play horrible. I cant focus for more than 15 minutes on anything lately. i've literally done nothing productive in about 5-6 days. I tried making a video twice but both came out horrible and scrapped both of them. Im going to take the day off, relax, take it easy and come back strong tomorrow.

Im going to make a 2/4 full ring video on stars and then maybe a steps video. if anyone would like to see anything else lemme know.

im gonna go watch blood diamond because its awesome and a movie is about the only thing i can focus on right now.

Just got home from LA where i grinded a lot.

Going to bed in a few so ill just do a few quick poker updates.

Been grinding a lot of plo as i had maybe a 35k downswing in nl. things definitely went very well last month, here are my stats:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/staff/Daut/irungoodinplo.JPG

ran sick sick hot but feel like im developing a very strong grasp on the game. i think i can continue to put up big results, but going to put plo on hold for a bit until i figure out whats going in my nl game.

i also grinded a lot in tourneys/sngs and had some good results. won a seat to san remo italy and to the wsop main event already. very much looking forward to my italy trip. cant wait to spend 3 weeks out there, i feel like cts except less baller.

ill update more later, just wanted to get a quick one in.

Ka$ino mspaint...CHICKA CHIKOOO KOOO

Date: Wed, Feb 20, 2008 Professional Internet Live Tournament

So while in omaha, Ka$ino (wcoop main event winner) decided to draw an mspaint for you guys. i still need to convince genius to as well, but this one is pretty good

I love his insignia. i need to start doing that. i will provide more of their drawings as they make them.

omaha has been awesome. ive grinded a ton and im doing really well. im up around 25k or so in the 6 days ive been here playing a lot of 5/10-25/50 nlm, the big mtts running and 5/10-25/50 plo. whenever im out here i do extremely well, im up around 50k in 13 days in omaha. i think being around genius, watching him play and talking things over with him helps a lot as he has some of the best insights into poker out of anyone ive ever talked to. hes really an amazing player and i cant wait to see him jump back in the 200/400+ games against ivey.

im going to cool off on the plo for a little and play lower stakes for a while to see if im ready to move back up. i did well but i feel like i just ran really hot to win ~20k or so in it. i also had a fun experience shorting 200/400 on ftp. i doubled my 8k stack and left like a true ratholer. i felt pretty bad doing it as i doubled through durrrr and hes a friend and really nice guy. i decided i prob wont be doing that anymore cause i hate when people do it to me so if i ever play in the future ill buy in for 8-12k and run it up and playit out a bit.

here are a couple of the plo hands to give you an idea of me running hot:

Pretty horrendous hand for him to have, but i get there anyway. this is close i guess and probably a call based on odds because he doesnt always have spades but its still ridiculous to get there a bunch of times in my sessions. i was 26% against this particular hand, and vs AA with spades id be even worse.

Dangerous move by me cause he almost definitely has AA with the Ace of spades, so im either drawing dead or hes got full house outs. just felt pretty confident he was doing the naked ace bluff here.
