busto in bellagio 15k

Date: Sat, Jul 12, 2008 Tournament Internet Professional

bah Today was rough. I was 100% card dead today, except for AK 3 times where I missed every time and an AQ where I got all in for a 30k chip pot against todd brunson on a Qh4h3c board. He had 76h and peeled the 5 like a pro on the turn. I later got in with QJs in a standard repush spot and won and then later A4s in another standard repush spot and lost to a very like call from K9 busto me. To make me feel a little better, it ran off xx9Kx, so even if I had AA I would have lost. Oh yeah, it was also right at the end of the day to extend my out before day 2 streak. All in all though, there wasnt much I could do today. When you get all in with 3 coin flips and only win 1 of them, you are going to lose. Actually, I was 50% or better on all of them, but thats irrelevant. Like a great(lol) unknown gambler once said, "You are 50% to win any hand, you either win or you lose." I thiiink there is a $5000 event at Venetian on Sunday, so I will probably play that. Hopefully the bleeding stops soon.

Relaxation

Date: Sun, Jul 6, 2008 Tournament Internet Professional

yay The last few days have been nice. I havent done much besides lounge around the house, make some videos, and go to see ufc. UFC was great. Going with around 20 of my poker friends always means lots of fun. Forrest Griffin is now the light heavyweight champion, which is a good thing for the ufc I think, as he carries himself well and it opens up a ton of other good light heavyweight fight options. I guess I just like to see someone work their way up from the bottom and make it. Granted, thats how most people in any profession get to the top, but his story is more public than most peoples. I am finally going to grind for a few hours online today, mainly because of double points. Online has been going sickly good for me for the last week or so, so hopefully it can keep up. Also, gl to all my friends still in the wsop.

Interesting night

Date: Sun, Jul 6, 2008 Tournament Internet Professional

... I played pretty much all day and all thru the night last night. I got destroyed at 1/2 and then found some fish at 3/6 and ran up a nice stack. All in all I think I'm up ~6k on the session heres the pic. Heres my fav. hand of the night vs HT-max. I called pretty quickly and actually had him on QQ but was way off. I just think he shuvs this river w/o the ace often enough to make it a difficult but good call. ***** Hand History for Game 18622207901 ***** $600.00 NL Texas Hold'em - Sunday, July 06, 11:18:35 2008 Table Atria (Real Money) Seat 2 is the button Seat 1: HT-Max ( $1093.00 ) Seat 2: j0hndayt0n ( $6603.90 ) Seat 3: Chalouze ( $238.45 ) Seat 4: needfood ( $591.00 ) Seat 5: TheCleaner11 ( $856.90 ) Seat 6: ta1887 ( $278.00 ) Chalouze posts the small blind [$3.00]. needfood posts the big blind [$6.00]. ** Dealing down cards ** Dealt to j0hndayt0n [ Kc Kh ] TheCleaner11 folds ta1887 folds HT-Max raises [$18.00] j0hndayt0n raises [$54.00] Chalouze folds needfood folds HT-Max raises [$96.00] j0hndayt0n calls [$60.00] ** Dealing Flop ** [ 3c, 3d, 6d ] HT-Max bets [$84.00] j0hndayt0n calls [$84.00] ** Dealing Turn ** [ 6h ] HT-Max bets [$198.00] j0hndayt0n calls [$198.00] ** Dealing River ** [ Ac ] HT-Max bets [$697.00] j0hndayt0n calls [$697.00] HT-Max shows [7d 8d ] j0hndayt0n shows [Kc Kh ] j0hndayt0n wins $2192.00 from main pot

I am the anti-robinhood of sng's

Date: Sat, Jul 5, 2008 Tournament Internet Professional

I steal from the poor and give to the rich. My graph from the $16's-$300's My graph from the $300's+ Basically everytime I play a game higher than the $300's I seem to lose. Not really sure what to say, because I don't feel like they're too much harder than the $225's just insane variance. The funny thing is that I'm not running that bad, but even if you run slightly bad you can lose so much at these levels. Also, in the 50,000 sngs I have played lifetime I have never seen it get 3/600, 9 handed. Welcome to double vpp week all. AND one more thing... yes sngiconstalker I'll play you HU! Please accept my offer so we can get started.

Busto in ME

Date: Fri, Jul 4, 2008 Tournament Internet Professional

Done with Vegas, learning cash, next stop The Hamptons So pretty depressing Main event for me. First off the structure this year is awesome, it truly is amazing how horrible the field is and how much time you have to stack these donkeys. The most significant hand of the day occurred when I raised qcjs from the button. BB calls and flop comes jc3cjh I bet pretty close to pot trying to have him not put me on having a jack. He calls turn is an 7 he checks I bet he raises to 2700 I call. River is a king and he quickly checks. I think for awhile and bet ~2/3's pot and he snap calls and flips 77. So that left me with about 13,000 and I pretty much hung around the 12-16k mark all day. Really card dead and horrible table position just didn't give me a chance to make any gravy style moves unfortunately. I am really looking forward to next years Vegas experience as my live game has gotten a lot better. I am going to hang around for a few days since Mcshove and Spacegravy made day 2. I think were gonna get a nice suite at the palms so that will be cool. I would love to play another live tourny at the Bellagio or venetian but the double vvps is prob. gonna have me locked to my computer. I've recently singed up with deucescracked.com which will hopefully help me make the transition from sngs to cash games. although I'm still on the hunt for supernova elite. I think it would be a good idea to continue with sngs grind out the year then when I have crazy rakeback try to get a good sample in cash while playing sngs for promotions and steps ect. With my ability to multi-table and grind for long hours I think I could make a lot playing cash. Heres my first 6k hand of which I'm running real good, I was up like 4k at 2/4 b4 this database was made but I lost the HH. So right now I'm feeling real good about it and I feel like I'm getting way better at poker while playing cash games. I'm gonna fly back to NY for the first time since December which should be pretty fun. For this graph I couldn't display the numbers b/c the site limits how wide a picture you can upload. So heres the data once again some stuff left out b/c of picture limitations.

25k chips going into day 2 of Main Event

Date: Fri, Jul 4, 2008 Tournament Internet Professional

meh Today was all around just a long grueling day. I wasn't getting too much to work with and my table was surprisingly hard for a live table which was pretty frustrating. I just played alot of small pots and managed to increase my stack by 25% to 25k. Congrats to Inyaface for winning a bracelet and Apathy for coming in 2nd in one. Pretty amazing overall how well everyone has done. I wasn't able to play too many events this year because I overslept for some of them and others were sold out but I'm feeling good about the Main Event so we will see how it goes. Gl to everyone still in.

WSOP update

Date: Fri, Jul 4, 2008 Tournament Internet Professional

43k chips going into Day 2 of Main Event. I just got back from Day 1A of the WSOP Event. It was a long day with many ups and downs, but I have to be pleased to survive and move on to Day 2 with a slightly above average stack. I made some pretty good calldowns today, and a couple good bluffs, but I did bluff off about 10k chips 3 barreling where I probably should have given up on the river. I played 7 events this year, cashing in 1 (my first live tourney cash!). It was a $1500 NLHE and I got 49th out of 2700 or so for a 10k cash. I got up to 120k chips with 50 left, but lost 2 coinflips then lost 77 to A3o when the small blind shoved into my big blind. So that was dissapointing, but I really do feel like my live play is improving. The more live tournaments I play, the more I realize how different they are from online play. Your opponents play differently than online, so there are certainly adjustments that need to be made, and I feel like I played much better overall this year compared to last year. It's been a fun time in Vegas, as it always is. Hopefully I can continue to play well and get lucky and go far in the Main Event. McShove

what a joke of a year

Date: Fri, Jul 4, 2008 Tournament Internet Professional

..... So I have been thinking and I have been hoping to do well for a long time. I obviously need to go back to where I assumed I was going to lose every tournament, as I did much better then. I got up to 47000 chips by the end of the 4th level of the main event today. I had 0 half way into the fifth. I flopped top pair 2 times and flopped 4 monster draws, all of which missed. Im not too sure what I am going to do for the next few days. Bellagio cup started a few days ago but honestly, im hating poker right now and poker is hating me, so I see no reason to torture myself any more than I have to. Back to only being up $1,750,000 lifetime. Such is life. :-)

Double VPPs = Grind

Date: Wed, Jul 2, 2008 Tournament Internet Professional

groan Last night while everyone was playing MTTs and random cash games I found out Stars would be doing their annual double VPP week this week. Last year it was in May, which was good, but this year they just piggybacked it onto WSOP which is really brutal. Obviously it's a good business move on their part because most grinders would've been taking it easy this week to play the Main Event, as well as 4th of July. It just kinda sucks to have to grind really hard this week after being pretty tired from the whole month, but oh well. Today I played 150 or so $114s and broke even after being up 3k earlier in the day, which blows. I ended up getting 20,000 VPPs which is good. Tomorrow I'll probably get up and immediately start grinding after going to the Stars hospitality suite to convert $W and other formalities for the Main Event. In other news I got 2nd in a $50 one rebuy, one add on last night, which should make for a good video when I go back over it with commentary. There were some really good situations in that one, so with that and McShove's MTT video we should be able to get some more really good content and analysis in the database. I also got some really good news in terms of a new instructor, but I'm gonna wait until it's all finalized before I go into details.

two more lol bustouts

Date: Tue, Jul 1, 2008 Tournament Internet Professional

yay I guess I will start with yesterdays tournament. It was a $1500 nlhe event, so we started with 3000 chips. I swung from 4000 to 12000 back to 4000 when this lol hand came up. I pushed in 200/400-50 with 55 from the hijack and the cutoff repushed for like 5500 total. He had KhQs. It came Qh9h4d6h5h and he got up and yelled a bad word really loud. Clearly the guy thought I hit a set and won but everyone else at the table was confused because he seemed to be so sad. Then he tried to shake my hand, which I always do even when people act like idiots/jerks/whatever when I bust. This is actually the third time in the series that I have seen someone totally misread either their own hand or someone elses. Ill give a short hand from another $1500. It was the first hand of the day and a guy limped utg and everyone folded to a tournament regular named Moto. He made it 250 and he called. It came KhTh4h. Moto bet 300 and other guy called. The turn was a 5d. It went check check. River was Jc. Moto checked, guy bet 1000 and moto called. Guy wrapped the table, said "I missed" turned Ah face up and tried to muck the other card but it bounced face up just before the muck, showing a Q, giving him a straight. lol. Anyways, in todays limit shootout, which had one of those awful structures, I had around 4000 in 150-300 limit. I had K5d in the bb 5 handed. The co raised, button called and I called. It came 855. I checked, the co bet, the button called and I decided to just call because I could see the co already reaching for chips to bet on the turn. The turn was an A, which I feared was going to kill my action. The co still bet, button folded and I raised and co called. The turn was the K. I bet, the co raised, I reraised all in and he called with AA. :-( That hand pretty much sums up my wsop prelims. Getting lots of equity then is all going right down to $0. One of the few deepstacked events of the wsop starts in a few days. The wsop is really weird, because they have some of the worst structured prelims but the best structured main event. That is probably one of the reasons why the prelims are given so much prestiege over the prelims of wpt or any other events. It is so funny to me how good tv coverage can turn standard meh prelims into something that everyone wants to win.

Such a bad day yesterday

Date: Mon, Jun 30, 2008 Tournament Internet Professional

wow I did so badly yesterday it's hard to put into words. First I bricked every MTT I played (10 or so) then just got crushed in SNGs all day for about 10 hours. I think part of the problem has been cascading while playing the $114s because I don't have a very good setup out here. I can't wait to get home where I have the 2 huge monitors so I can tile my games. I did get about 15,000 vpps though, helping make up for a really low volume month. Stars was running these $162+12.50, 4 person winner take all satellites that were really soft. Also, they gave you about the same rake as playing a $500, and with a couple regulars playing them all day, I got in about 60 or so, which is really good. Unfortunately they took them away today because the WSOP satellites are ending. I also cleared my $3000 bonus for getting to 300k vpps, but I'm still pretty far behind pace. Besides playing, I've been pretty happy recently. I've been putting in a lot of work for the site trying to make it better, including looking for a new instructor to make videos. Last night McShove made the FT of a $70 MTT on Full Tilt, so we recorded it live down from 14 players or so until the finish. There were some really interesting hands, plus McShove is a really good thinking player, so it should make for a good video when we add the commentary. I'm probably going to play the Limit Shootout tomorrow, then take a day off before the Main Event on July 3rd. Lastly, congrats to Max Greenwood who won a bracelet a few days ago. He's a really nice guy who also happens to be really good at MTTs and NL cash.

14th In 50k Horse

Date: Mon, Jun 30, 2008 Tournament Internet Professional

I guess I have to give details, although its hard to relive it Starting Day 4 my seat was just awful. Lyle Berman, Barry Greenstein, and Phil Ivey were on my left, and Ralph Perry was on my right. The day started off pretty awful as Phil Ivey picked up rolled up dueces in Stud Hi/lo (with another dead duece as someon's up card) and Barry Greenstein made KJKJ on 4th street, so insta-double up for Phil Ivey, which was the exact opposite of what everyone was hoping for. I played really tight and worked my stack up to around 900k and then just kind of blinded down to 675k or so when the bubble burst. We redrew for 2 tables and my seat got even worse. Scotty Nguyen on my left, Phil Ivey on his left, Barry Greenstien on his left, Doyle Brunson on his left, and Huck Seed on my right. The only good thing about the table draw was that the worst player left in the tournament was two to my right, Patrick Bueno. Now here are a few examples of just how bad this guy was. During the Omaha 8 round, he played literally 8 out of 8 hands, showing down things such as 24JT etc. During the Stud 8 round he called raises with K72 rainbow etc. So anyway, I was glad I had position on him. The 3rd hand or so after we redrew for 2 tables (Holdem round) I picked up KTdiamonds on the button. Now normally I would fold this if anyone else raised or raise it if it was folded to me, but something very odd happened. Barry Greenstein limped under the gun, then Bueno limped, then Huck Seed limped. So at this point I was calling 20k into what would be a 120k pot, and I would have position the whole hand, so I called. Nguyen called and Ivey checked. The flop was QJ4 with 2 clubs. Ivey led out for 20k, Bueno just called, and I of course called with my open ended straight draw. The turn was the 9 of hearts, and my heart just about exploded. I couldn't believe that I had just made the absolute nuts in an enourmous pot. Then the unbelievable happened, Ivey bet out for 40k, Bueno raised to 80k. I couldn't believe what was happening, this pot was absolutely huge. I obviously reraised with the nuts to 120k, Ivey folded, and Bueno called. The river brought another Jack and Bueno checked. Looking back on it I could have just checked here but I just didn't think he would check a full house and the chance that he would call me with a hand like AQ, KQ, AJ, JT, or T8 was decent so I bet, and he raised. At this point I almost could have folded, I was so sure I was beat. But the pot was 600k at this point and I had to call 40k, and he was so bad I thought there was a chance he had the same hand or a worse hand. I called and he had QJoffsuit. It just felt so sick seeing my chance at final tabling essentially go down the drain on such a sick beat. A few hands later the game switched to Omaha 8. I had about 400k in chips. Bueno started limping every hand. I picked up A26Q and raised and he called. I forget what happened but I'm pretty sure I bet the flop, and he called, we check/checked the turn, and he bet the river and I called and scooped the pot. I was up to around 550k at this point and had a realistic shot at making a come back. Then the game became razz and I just got unlucky. I started with 345 against Barry Greenstien's 6 or 7 up and I caught bad and made a ten and had to make a crying call on the river. Then I started with A25 against Phil Ivey's 6. he obviously catches 4, A, 7. And I catch K, 8, J and have to fold. These two hands left me with around 300k. Then the game became Stud Hi. I started with Kd 5d Qd with the Qd as my up card. There were two kings out. One king folded I raised, and Barry Greenstien reraised me with the other King. Now since 3 kings were accounted for it was very unlikely that he had a King, and the way the hand palyed out I think that he didn't have one. I caught the 8d on 4th street and he caught a J. So now I have a flush draw with 3 cards to come. Keep in mind there were absolutely no diamonds out besides the ones in my hand. Greenstien checks, furthering my thought that I he didn't have a King, I bet and he called. Now at this point I think he had something like A x K J . So if he bricked 5th street I could bet and he would fold his hand. Sadly, and incredibly unluckily for me Barry gets another Jack on 5th street and I get the 3 of hearts. Now he bets into me, and I have to call. I brick 6th street and he bets and I call. I miss the river and he bets and I get to fold leaving myself with like 45k chips. So ridiculously unlucky. Then I triple up with like 335 agaisnt Scotty and Barry when I make fives and threes. ThenI actually get my stack up to around 300k again and the game switches to Stud Hi/lo I start with A67 against David Bach's 7 up. he opens and I reraise. I get a 4 on 4th street and he gets a Jack or something, now I have 4 to a low with an Ace, a very good hand. I bet and he calls, the turn gives me a T and he bets into me, so now I think he has a pair in the hole. I call. I get a 6 on 6th street and he bets again putting me all in and I call. I get a 4 on 7th giving me two pair and he flips over KK in the hole. The river gives him a Ten, and a higher two pair and I'm out. I say good game or good luck or something like that and walk away from the table about 10 feet. When you cash in an event you are supposed to wait until a floor person comes over and gives you a little red card taht you take to the cage to get your pay out. For some reason, even though there were a million people watching, the floor guy wasn't anywhere to be found. So after about 5 minutes of standing there feeling awful I walk over to a floor guy and say something like "can you give me card so I can get my money and get out of here" I may have used an expletive I don't remember, but in any case Pokernews' now infamous quote is ridiculously out of context and is actually a pretty good example of their reporting for the entire tournament. Extremely selective, out of context, and mostly incorrect. So thats about it. Pretty disapointing, but I did get to put a cool PokerStars patch on my hat which I really like. So thank you PokerStars for the opportunity, sorry I couldn't come through. Also thanks to all the people who bought a piece of me, I hope you buy some cool stuff with the 80k or so I made you. I also played the 1500 Horse tournament today and busted early after suffering two bad beats by this european guy.

Finally a bubble

Date: Sun, Jun 29, 2008 Tournament Internet Professional

lolol I decided to keep the no day 2 streak going, uping the number to 26 in a row(my previous bad streak was 22 in a row). I know, I am good. The one good thing about running bad, at least in my short career, is that after the downswing, there is usually a huge upswong. I ran nicely at the start of the day, winning a coin flip and with a 2 outer in a super standard spot. Once we hit 300/600-75, I went more carddead than I have the entire series. Normally being card dead is ok as long as you have a passive table, but mine was raise and reraise every hand, basically leaving me no choice but to blind off. I finally got a chance to pick up some blinds by pushing 75, 85, 83 etc etc. On my busto hand, a lag kid made it 3bbs and I pushed my 8bb stack in from the bb with AJ. He siiiighed, cried a little, then called with AQ....and obvously celebrated because he just won a HUGE 16bb pot. These people make me lol sometimes. I have also decided that doing stuff besides poker is good for your brain. Three years ago, I played online poker around 70 hours per week and hated life. Now, while I am playing the wsop basically every day, I am taking time to do other things I enjoy. I am working on a full ring cash seminar type thing that I am going to put up on my personal site when it becomes active. I am also putting book ideas together in my brain. I have also been playing tennis with Katy on most of the days I bust early. It was basically her idea to add some variance to life and not just be a money making machine, because there really is more to life than work. So, while I got to work a lot more three years ago, I now work less and love life a lot more.
