Session Review #19: Piece O' Cake

Date: Thu, Jul 10, 2008 Internet

I'm not going to say much today. I managed to find tables at Party and Stars last night. I was a little distracted while playing: I was watching TV with my wife during my session. I was also pretty tired after very little sleep the night before. Luckily, the cards took it easy on me. Very few difficult decisions came my way and I managed to come out ahead whenever I found myself making poor decisions. I've got three hands below that show you the type of session I had last night. In this...

What's Old is New Again

Date: Wed, Jul 9, 2008 Internet

Even though I was a little tired last night, I played poker anyway. Rather than continue playing $50 NLHE, I made the jump back up to the $100 NLHE games. I managed to hold my own though I would have shown better results had I played certain situations differently. I ended up playing one table at Party Poker and the other at PokerStars. Party gave me another $50 cash bonus the other night. I ran the $50 up to $80 on Monday night; I took the $80 to a $100 NLHE 6-max table last night. I...

New Software and Some Slowplays

Date: Tue, Jul 8, 2008 Internet

After eating dinner and getting the kids to bed, I purchased and downloaded my copy of Poker Tracker 3. Although I'd heard many bad things about the newest incarnation of the world's most popular piece of poker software, Matt Maroon said that he liked it. I don't know Matt personally but he really knows his stuff when it comes to poker and software. After installing my new software, I set up Poker Tracker 3 to import all of my saved hand histories from the past six months or so. The import...

Enjoy the Ride

Date: Mon, Jul 7, 2008 Internet

I played poker this past weekend. I actually put in all 1000 hands that I was looking to play at $50 NLHE. I reviewed my recent sessions which got me looking back at March's train wreck with a more objective eye. I'm happy to say that I'm "feeling" poker again. I think I'm finally back. I had a good session on Friday night at PokerStars' $50 NLHE tables. A little too good but it was nice to have the deck hit me hard after being neglected by Lady Luck for so long. Saturday afternoon...

Let's Play

Date: Fri, Jul 4, 2008 Internet

My plans for this weekend are simple: time with the family, time with Lost Odyssey (my newest Xbox 360 RPG), and some poker. That's right! It's time to start re-introducing poker back into my life. I'm going to take it slowly. I need to view poker as a game and not a second job. Less focus on money and more focus on the game will help me better withstand poker's ups and downs. So let's come up with a new plan of attack. If you're a regular reader, you'll know that I love to set both...

It's a Bizarro World

Date: Thu, Jul 3, 2008 Internet

Sometimes I just don't get it. For months on end, I lose most coin-flips when it really matters. I bubble out of sit-n-go after sit-n-go. My bankroll goes from impressive to mediocre. My poker skills go from seemingly solid to flat-out terrible. And my confidence in my ability to pull off a winning session disappears completely. Monday evening, it's like I was living in Bizarro world. With the help of a friend and some refreshing drinks, I had a fairly solid night at the tables. My...

Poker, Beer, and a Technical Question

Date: Mon, Jun 30, 2008 Internet

I played a little poker on the weekend. It felt a little strange at first but I was back into the swing of it in no time. And I was actually up 20 BBs in a little less than 15 minutes. I'll admit that I was playing at the $10 NLHE tables but that's all PokerTime had available at the time given my paltry bankroll at that site. Still, it was fun being able to outplay my opponents on many of the hands that I played. I started to remember why I liked poker! It's with that attitude that I'll...

Still Nerding It Up

Date: Thu, Jun 26, 2008 Internet

Tonight I pick up the beer that I'll be drinking next Monday. What's happening next Monday? Poker! I may not be able to stomach the game sober right now so I'll partake of some liquid courage prior to hitting the tables. Will this hurt my results? Probably not. I'm playing terribly right now anyway; I doubt a few drinks will be my downfall. In the meantime, I've been busy playing and writing about role-playing games on my other site - The Greedy Gamer. I've been playing Eternal Sonata...

The following is a paid advertisement for www.onlinegambling7.com Have ever wondered how to get started with Online Casino Gambling? You've got some money set aside. You're itching to gamble but there's not a casino within driving distance of your home. And even though you've heard about Online Casino Gambling, you're just not sure where to start. I was in just such a spot a couple years ago and was fortunate enough to have a friend show me the ropes. My game of choice was (and still is,...

The following is a paid advertisement for the Online Gambling Database. I was coming out of the grocery store the other day and was suddenly assaulted by a couple raggedy looking kids. They were selling chocolates of questionable quality in the name of some random charity. I'm not sure which charity they were talking up nor do I know the exact contents of the boxes of chocolates they were holding. All I know is that they were holding out their hands and looking for my money. Did you know...

The following is a paid advertisement for Play Real Poker Online. Have you ever tried to play online poker for play money? I'm sure some of you out there think it's fun. And I'm also sure that many of you regard "play money" poker as something far removed from actual poker. Poker as a game revolves around money. Sure - there are cards. And there are other players at the table. But in the end, a good night at the tables boils down to one thing and one thing only: did you make any...

My Game

Date: Tue, Jun 24, 2008 Internet

I'll be playing poker next Monday. There will be cocktails. There will be some NLHE. There will be some PLO. And as always, a good session (and some lucky breaks) may be all it takes to get me excited about poker again. I'm kind of easy that way. But I will need to brush up on my game over the next few days. Why? I think the video after the jump best describes the current state of my poker game after a couple months of neglect.

A Smashing Weekend

Date: Mon, Jun 23, 2008 Internet

Another week and still no poker played by me. A friend of mine told me today that he finally hit up the $50 NLHE 6-max tables over the weekend and had a great time. He then told me that he decided to play a quick SNG at Party Poker to earn the single Party Point that he needed for some random reward; he took the SNG down for quick $40 profit. It's nice to hear of other people continuing to encounter great deals of success with online gambling as I continue to flounder. Then again, I guess...

How 'bout some poker already?!

Date: Fri, Jun 20, 2008 Internet

It looks like I'm not the only one out here thinking that Omaha is the next big thing. I knew I wasn't the only person hoping to find some more easy money online! If I can just muster up enough effort to read a couple books and log a few weeks of Omaha poker online, I'll be set to rebuild my bankroll four cards at a time. The only thing standing in the way of me and untold riches is my blasted video game hobby/addiction. It really doesn't help that I've put so much work into building up my...
