Weekend Unleashed!

Date: Fri, Sep 19, 2008 Internet

It's almost the weekend! It's going to be a great weekend for me. I'll be spending some quality time with my wife and kids, playing some head's up poker at Full Tilt and Titan Poker, and hitting the Xbox 360 pretty hard. I may also have a couple drinks because it seems to be the popular thing to do. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. There's still a full day's work ahead and I've still got some things to say... First an update on my Xbox 360 situation: there is no more situation! My...

Oh Happy Day!

Date: Thu, Sep 18, 2008 Internet

Another quick post today since I'm terribly busy. My first bit of news is definitely more video game related: my new Xbox 360 arrived this morning via courier! Have you held off on buying an Xbox 360 due to fears surrounding the infamous Red Ring of Death (RROD)? Read this post on The Greedy Gamer if you'd like to see a timeline of the life, death, and eventual replacement of my Xbox 360. I'll be testing my new Xbox 360 tonight with a little Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. In poker news,...

Does he have a set?

Date: Wed, Sep 17, 2008 Internet

I'm a little too busy today to put up a full post. Check out what I'm up to after the jump. Over the past month, I've downloaded a whole slew of videos from PokerSavvy. Although I focused on 6-max NLHE, I also downloaded videos for a number of other games. I find that I'm quite interested by head's up poker, whether it be no-limit or limit. I have to admit that the fast pace of limit hold'em really appeals to me. And head's up limit hold'em is crazy, crazy fast. I'm sure I could make...

Tough Spots?

Date: Tue, Sep 16, 2008 Internet

I hate playing in re-raised pots when I'm out of position. This isn't a new concept. Anyone who's played poker for some time knows just how awful it is to be in a hand out of position against a solid or tricky player. And things only get worse when the pot is re-raised pre-flop. Whether or not you've got a hand or not, seeing the flop in a re-raised pot is a session-defining moment - probably more true for low-limit NLHE where re-raised pots are infrequent. I thought today we'd take a...

A Fine Weekend

Date: Mon, Sep 15, 2008 Internet

I had a pretty good weekend at the tables. Friday night was a lot of fun though I'll admit that I'm not used to drinking as much as I did. In fact, I was so floored by the measly eight drinks imbibed on Friday that I was unable to play poker on Saturday. Definitely -EV. I'll give a quick recap of the festivities after the jump. I started the evening off by playing some heads-up $50 NLHE. I took on four opponents: one at Titan Poker and three at Full Tilt. I made short work of my Titan...

Weekend! Poker!

Date: Fri, Sep 12, 2008 Internet

I hit up PokerStars' 6-max tables last night and came away a winner. After a pretty solid week of poker, I've managed to pull myself out of the hole I dug for myself early in the month. There's a lot to be said about persistence and patience at the poker tables. Of course, there's much more to be said for flopping sets in re-raised multi-way pots too! Tonight, my weekend of poker begins. On the slate this evening is some drunken head's up no-limit hold'em. I'll probably start with some...

Took the night off...

Date: Thu, Sep 11, 2008 Internet

No poker for me last night. I'm still a little fatigued from battling that cold over the weekend. So I took the night off to relax with my wife and went to bed early. Tonight's plan is to hit PokerStars for a bunch of hands at the $100 NLHE tables. I'm about 600 VPPs away from picking up my SilverStar status and 1200 VPPs away from clearing my bonus. And in an effort to test myself, I may just try some $200 NLHE in the couple weeks at Full Tilt. My game may not be perfect but I know I'm a...

On this week's agenda...

Date: Wed, Sep 10, 2008 Internet

I opted to continue working off my bonus at PokerStars last night. I'm getting pretty close but it will likely take me another full month before I'll have my reload bonus worked off. I'm really not in a rush to get this bonus cleared though it does feel like grind when I have to earn my SilverStar VIP status each and every month. I looked over my Stars $100 NLHE record since I started clearing this bonus back in July. I've played about 10,000 hands in that time and I'm a very marginal...

Broadening My Palate

Date: Tue, Sep 9, 2008 Internet

I'm back after a long, sickly weekend. There's nothing worse than coming down with a wicked cold at the same time as your kids. Lots of Kleenex, lots of whining and crying, and not enough rest. I figured that the best medicine might be a little time away from the tables and some extra time with my Xbox 360... Unfortunately, my Xbox 360 died at around 9 PM on Thursday night. I'll spare you the details which are available on my other site, The Greedy Gamer, if you're interested. Needless to...

Positive Thinking

Date: Fri, Sep 5, 2008 Internet

As we head into the weekend, I wanted to point out that poker's never all doom and gloom. I'm going to pull out of my cold-streak (if you can even call a stretch of 2,000 hands a streak) just fine. Over the next few days, I'm going to approach poker as just a game...again. I find it hard to stop myself from regarding poker as a source of income. But it is just a game. It's a game that I play well at times and quite poorly at other times. First and foremost, it should be fun. And...

Sick and Stupid Poker

Date: Thu, Sep 4, 2008 Internet

True to my word, I stayed away from the tables last night. I was tempted to play last night after watching a few IStrong videos but I held fast. For those who care, I finished off Half-Life 2: Episode 1 instead. It was refreshing to end a night of entertainment without having to pore over my financial records to determine whether my time was well-spent or wasted. Tonight's plans include more of the same: kids, wife, TV, and some video games. My entire family, myself included, have come...

So Cold...

Date: Wed, Sep 3, 2008 Internet

As good as my month of August finished off, I'm now running cold. Bad cards are leading to bad decisions; in turn, my bad decisions cultivate a poor table image. A bad table image is terrible when you're just not hitting the flop in a meaningful way. Sure, you'll get paid off when you do hit that set or top two-pair, the catch being that you need to hit. First off, just how cold am I running? Here's a quick breakdown of my hands this month:I've played 43 pocket pairs; I've hit 3 sets. I've...

Month in Review: August 2008

Date: Tue, Sep 2, 2008 Internet

August started off slowly for me. I spent the first week playing a lot of Half-Life 2 on my Xbox 360. But I soon found myself completely fascinated with poker again. After a bit of roller coaster at PokerStars, I returned to Full Tilt and brought my winnings into the black by month's end. How did I do? All the details after the jump. I'll be using data that I gathered from Poker Tracker 3's various graph and reporting features. Unfortunately, neither PokerEV nor my set-o-meter software...

Fancy Moves

Date: Fri, Aug 29, 2008 Internet

I played about 400 hands of break-even poker last night at Full Tilt. I got down early when I got it all-in pre-flop with QQ against a shorter stacked player (50 BB) sitting pretty with AA. I also had another pair of Queens fall flat on an A K x flop. But today's post isn't about the sheer crapiness of finding yourself down a buy-in or two within the first ten minutes of your session. Instead, I'd like to look at a couple hands where certain Villains decided to get tricky. I hate raising...
