The Much Anticipated Malaysia Poker Tournament In Casino De Genting

Date: Sun, Nov 11, 2007 Internet

I have got my Genting WorldCard. It has finally arrived. Last week actually. I was ecstatic as i took it directly from my postman's hands after 2-3 weeks wait. I would not have bothered to apply it if not for the much anticipated Malaysia's first freeroll poker tournament.

I have previously posted about the poker tournament in my previous post Malaysia casino redux. I was also asking on the type of Genting WorldCard needed to qualify as there are different statuses to each WorldCard. However as new information surfaced, i am not that happy anymore.

One of the pokermalaysia forum members personally uncovers the details to the Malaysia poker tournament:

----------
Genting Poker Challenge
Date: 7 - 9 December 2007
Time: 8.00pm onwards
Venue: Casino De Genting
Prize money: RM 50,000
Entry fee: 1 (one) Genting Point
Members Card Type: Green and Silver

Genting Premier Poker Tournament
Date: 14 - 16 December 2007
Time: 8.00pm onwards
Venue: Casino De Genting
Prize money: RM 150,000
Entry fee: 5 (five) Genting Points
Members Card Type: Silver and above

Caution:
*Places are limited to 300 pax per tournament.
*Two tournaments are open to Genting WorldCard Members only and they
need to have Genting points in order to participate.
*Thematic card (eg Awana,
Coffee Bean, Theme Park etc) is NOT an acceptable entry card type.

More info :
The dealers will be professionally trained by Mr Savage's team. On tournament, there will be no front (check in) money as Genting will be providing free bankroll (initial capital) for members to participate. The mode of play is Texas Hold 'Em and there will be three rounds of play: Preliminary, Semi-final and Final. The process of elimination will apply until the final 10 players.
----------

As you can see, you need to collect points to be able to play in the tournament. But is the card i received belongs to 'thematic card'? I can use it to change to green status? Another news is that those tournaments are upon invitation only? Seriously, i have lost faith and interests. Are you trying to be funny, Genting?

Google Practices Double Standards On Poker Ads

Date: Sat, Nov 10, 2007 Internet

My mistake, their Adsense i mean. Well, it is not for everyone. I quote partially from their program policies that, "Sites displaying Google ads may not include:

  • Violent content, racial intolerance, or advocacy against any individual, group, or organization

  • Pornography, adult, or mature content

  • Hacking/cracking content

  • Illicit drugs and drug paraphernalia

  • Excessive profanity

  • Gambling or casino-related content

  • .....Another 10 points more not included here"

However, if you frequent other poker blog besides this, you will notice some able to display google ads such as billrini.com. His blog probably rake in traffic by the thousands or maybe x10 per month.

I have asked google support, why. They replied and answered that they cannot disclose whatever relationship they may have. Fine. I'll just not use your product then in my future blogging endeavours.

Feeling The Pinch From Playing Too Long Online

Date: Thu, Nov 8, 2007 Internet

So what they say is true, the common ailments from working in front of computers for too long. I have been getting shoulder and neck aches and lately burning sensation on the eyeballs. Trying to be a better poker player and better blogger seem a little too much a feat to do.

Finally bought this Ammeltz YokoYoko~for stiff shoulder and muscular aches after seeing a colleague using one. At least it saves me a few trips in advance from the massage parlor, for the moment.

A trip of live games doesn't help relieve the ache either. Damnit. There is no shame in playing low levels. Playing levels above your own is not good. Ambitious for me perhaps. Because it is just reality. Crap.

A Business Point Of View On Playing Poker: An Orthodox Methodology

Date: Fri, Nov 2, 2007 Internet

came to me one day that you can see poker as a business entity or something similar to doing trading stocks/shares online. It all has its own share of risks and rewards. With bigger stakes, comes greater responsibilities to the investments you made. Most people will see this is where the excitements comes in.

Well i have been experimenting with ring games which is where the enlightenment comes. I consider that at this stage i am a micro level player. If you know me well, i played more tournaments than i can count those ring games.

Main Thoughts
Inevitably, you will lose money playing poker. Yes, if you play poker you will lose money. If you have looked at a graph plotting your progress, you will realise the common ups and downs. Even looking at other player's graph, you will see again the up and down spikes.

When starting to play poker, it's all good and all about chasing the money. To be one of those to reach that destination. To be in the selectable group where poker gods and goddess belongs. You see smiling faces beaming with a lot of money. That is what keeps you going. In reality there will be losses and keeping those losses minimum is what counts.

There is certainly no point that while you get the money you wanted and at the same time you can't stop the leak. I believe everyone who runs a company or business would rather pay more attention on that.

While looking to make a profit, keeping check of those costs and losses are what you should be looking at instead if you are just starting out on your poker journey. In the end of the day, it is those losses where you are going to be out of business.

I may have noticed this a bit too late but i have been tagged by Emila in her blogging for friendship post. Who is she? She is the beautiful lady who runs Emila's Illustrated Blog. I guessed it is only appropriate i write a post to say thank you.

It is a first for me. It caught me off guard unexpectedly, that's why the slow response. I often visit her blog for artsy inspirations. I like her arts, that's why.

The Absolute Post : Not Another Absolute Poker Story

Date: Sun, Oct 28, 2007 Internet

In celebrating with the Absolute Poker scandal, this post will be about everyting absolutely. The links below are sorted using the random of random card link generator :)

  • Absolut Vodka - One of the first alcohols i started with. It can be mixed with almost any combinations for punches. Some people doesn't like its taste because it only hits you after you swallowed.

  • Absolute Thai - A restaurant located in the new developed area at The Curve, Malaysia. Have not tried it personally. It is in the Ikano Power Centre shopping centre opposite Ace Hardware.

  • Absolute Giganten - A 1999 movie i might not come to know if all this scandal did not happened. Might on the look out for downloadables :)

  • Absolute Punk - Punk is really something not my style. But it is worth the mention for attention.

  • The Absolute - At least something good came out from the scandal. A site that is good to look or browse at for someone that reflects a lot. You can say it is gear more toward philosophical.

Less Is More

The topic of the video at the end of this post reminded me of a T-shirt from Giordano. The retail shop was selling the shirt with that big word printed in front.

In poker there are always decisions to make. Sometimes, you can read all the books in the world or be the most knowledgeable person and still can't get it. Afterall, you are your worst enemy.

To Be Affiliate Or Not

Date: Wed, Oct 17, 2007 Internet

While you are grinding poker online, you can also make if off from promoting several online poker rooms. You can do so by becoming an affiliate to these online poker rooms and refer people there.

The successful ones
Not mentioning just about poker alone, there are a lot of internet marketers around promoting different products. Promoting online poker room is just one of the product you can do. But it is all the same. I have been snooping around 'making money online' niche and tapping some tips and tricks. I also found some very successful local internet marketers in Malaysia;

Malaysiapoker.com
If you did a google search for Malaysia Poker recently, you will come to malaysiapoker.com. It is always interesting to find new stuff about malaysia poker. However there is no info there about the person behind it except links to online poker rooms. If you check Whois.com, the site was registered to someone from the US? Someone would like to tap the market in Malaysia?

WBCOOP 2007 Revisited

Date: Mon, Oct 15, 2007 Internet

"YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" A few hands after the first break, i have fallen. With slightly less than 1400 brave men to begin, everyone was given 10,000 chips to start.

The blind structure was 15mins per level. You can expect to slug it out for 4-6hrs to make it to the bubble. I was battling on another front at the same time when this started. It was promising over there and i did make it to their curry puffs.

While the battle was marching on at Pokerstars, i didn't really make much play and in the end was overwhelmed. The journey to my quest soon ended.

Malaysia Casino Redux

Date: Thu, Oct 11, 2007 Internet

There has been too much poker tournament going on. In fact it is hard for the eye to stay glued for long because there will always be something coming up. If you have been a frequent player on online social network sites, you will come to know about names such as Facebook, Myspace, Bebo and et cetera et cetera. A post about such case can be found at Freshblogger's blog.

The poker industry is booming rapidly as well and in Asia too with the help of PokerStar's APPT. From what PokerMalaysia forum community members able to find out is that, there will be another tournament called Asian Poker Open 2007. Seriously, i am not able to catch my breath!

Previously i have mentioned about casino in Malaysia. The well known casino name in Malaysia is "Casino de Genting" or broadly Genting Highlands Malaysia. Have a look at the Malaysia map and you will know why.

i) Map of Malaysia's KL city
ii) Satelite image of KL city and Genting Malaysia (circle in red)

You should be putting those 2 images together in your mind and will be able to get a picture of where Malaysia's casino is. A lot of Malaysians have been eagerly awaiting the freeroll tournament that will be on December 2007. This tournament will be on (should be, the date not confirmed) with the help of Matt Savage (check his blog dated July21, 2007). This game will change how we play in the casino in Malaysia. A latest updates can be found in PokerNews blog.

However to qualify for the event, you need to be a Genting WorldCard member. I have signed up accordingly a few days ago online. Although with some complications, i have asked for their customer support via email. Their customer support do help me accordingly with a 24-48hrs wait. I was told i will be getting my card via mail and am keeping my fingers crossed.

It sounds easy to be a Genting WorldCard member. But Matt Savage does hint that the tournament is for VIP members. I have come to know that there are levels in a WorldCard. If you check out the Genting website and click its 'Benefits and Privileges', you will find point (20). The benefit no.20 is only available for Gold member. I am not clear who is able to enter the tournament. What level do you need to be to play? And how to become a Gold member?

A Malaysia Poker Dream

Date: Thu, Oct 4, 2007 Internet

When you think of poker what would come to mind? Casino, cigarette smokes, fat people. I am developing a flabby belly now due to sitting for too long. In Malaysia, there is only one casino but it doesn't have poker game. The casino sits on a hill and provides a theme park but no poker game. It is a sad case. I do not know when this can change. I do not know when poker players here can play a game in a valid casino or card room like in the Philippines.

Somehow met a blogger from Brisbane that took up my idea to put a post on casino in Brisbane in his blog. From what i was told there are lots of no money prize tournaments around the city run mainly by bars. Interesting, perhaps i should move there and start blogging from there.

On another note, i came to this clip that was circling around the net of a professor giving his last lecture. A 47-year old dying professor giving a talk in his university on his childhood dreams. It is slightly less than 2 hours. I enjoyed watching it. What do you think about it?

Be A Poker Blogger And Get A Job

Date: Mon, Oct 1, 2007 Internet

I know i am guilty of not being really a conversationalist here at my blog. But this is because i am trying to put up a post that is value for time of visitors and readers that came here. I will try to get better myself as i go on.

Well i've been meaning to post this up for some time. Recently, i saw this call for poker bloggers on the job board at Problogger.net. And poker bloggers are wanted. Would you take up this chance being a poker blogger yourself? Problogger is a blog by full time blogger Darren Rowse. In analogy to that it would be a poker player turn professional.

His blog is good. I read his blog and try to learn something from time to time. You can check out the calling for "poker and sport gambling bloggers" on his job board. I believe it will be down the list now as others are appearing almost daily.

The Meaning Of Donk Explained

Date: Fri, Sep 28, 2007 Internet

I am no expert with words so i am going to draw several explanations from the respectable online urbandictionary.com which contains all the definitions to slangs. It even have the meaning to the famous Australian slang "crikey!". If you want to find out what it means, you can copy that word/slang and search it there.

The Slangs
From the urban dictionary;

  1. Donk
A donk simply means a bad poker player.

  2. Donkaments
Here i briefly sum it up; "A donkament is a poker game/tournament mainly consisted of a large pool of unskilled players.

From there you can add something along the line like, donk fest, donkalicious, donkarama, and lately bodonkey (bodog donkament). Well mostly the tournaments were organised by bloggers and sometimes with a unique password that you can get a kick laughing at it. Since i started blogging not too long ago, might as well find out what bloggers mostly do.

Donkey Test

Moving right along, besides tournament there is also a test that you might need to take to gauge on your poker skills before you graduate. I just found this out recently. The test is offered by Donkeytest.com and it can assess your poker quotient similar to an IQ test.

However to fully take the test there is a fee which you will need to pay. To view a sample, you can check out pokertaswegian blog post. The result page where he posted is very detail and it is the first time i am seeing it myself. I might have to gather a few dollars to do it to find out mine or maybe NOT. I won't reveal it here if i do....
