Tom 'durrr' Dwan's Pink Feather Prop Bet Hat Charity Auction

Date: Tue, Apr 22, 2008 Professional Internet Tournament

Internet phenom Tom 'durrr' Dwan has won tens of millions online over his short career, but definitely suffered a loss the night before the WPT Championship. Although chronically late, Tom promised that he would be on time to a bar to meet his friends including Alan Sass. Tom was late and, as a result, would have to wear a different hat of Alan's choosing for the duration of the WPT championship. The hat from Day 1 was either stolen or accidentally thrown away, but we have procured the pink feather hat the Tom wore on Day 2. We decided that with all of Tom's recent exposure and his hoards of fanboys online, we could probably get a decent amount of money for charity if we auctioned off the hat. The proceeds will go to a charity of either Tom or the winner's choosing (or some kind of split).

To check out the picture and the auction, go to - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250240041012

Stars and Stripes..Bicycle Casino

Date: Tue, Apr 22, 2008 Professional Internet Tournament

Saturday I decided to play in the Stars and Stripes $225.00 Multi-Rebuy NL Event at the Bicycle Casino at the last minute. I was on my way home and as I approached the 710 frwy southbound on the 10 frwy east,I took the exit towards the Bike.

I told myself I was not going to re-buy and I only had enough cash on me to pay the entry fee. I left my ATM card in my truck so I would not be tempted to change my mind if need be.

I went down to 400 chips early in the second level and at the break after the third level I worked my way up to 1150 in chips.

I had not seen a hand over 10-10 and I hit a few flops in position and as we came back from break and there were no more re-buys I knew being so short stack i was going to have to make some good reads and hope for some cards. There were only 99 players but there were 112 rebuys and add ons and I was probably the shortest stack in the room.

I literally did not see a pocket pair over JJ. the one hand that got me up to 7500 in chips was AQ hearts when I went all in preflop with 5 callers. I rivered a flush and it put me back in the ball game.

I hung in until there were 16 players left and I had 10,500 when this one player who was getting under everyone's skin with his loud mouth and raising every hand, raised under the gun to 1200 when the blinds were 1200-600. I was in the cutoff and had KJ and I went all in. he turned over 88 and I could not belive I picked the wrong spot again. However a J hit the flop and I doubled up and with the blinds and antes had 25,000 in chips. I had 87 clubs the next hand in the small blind when the blinds were 2000-1000 and 13 people left. The final 27 played some outstanding poker and only the final 9 were going to make the money tonight.I had blinded down to about 14,000 and with 5 limpers again it only cost me another 1000 to see a flop. A-7-7 and one guy called 4,000 and I went all in. he thought for quite awhile and folded AJ face up.If he would not of limped I would have folded and probably would have not made the final table.

The field decided to pay the top 10 and i went to the final table with only 11,500 in chips as the blinds were up to 3000-1500 with a 500 ante.

Again I had no hands to make a move and I busted out 7th for $1435.00 Not a bad profit for the evening, but I wish I could go to a final table and be able to do something. The guy who knocked me out 6th last month also made the final table but he busted 9th this time.

I played some of my best Poker against some very good players and was extremely happy to make another final table. I have made the money 4 times this year in quality tournaments and I hope my good fortune continues.

I want to wish my good friend, Jorge Pineda for winning last nights $335.00 NL event.

I am going to play the $335.00 tomorrow night. It has one re-buy and the field will not be more than 120 people. I need a quality showing and hopefully a win to have some extra money for this years WSOP.

I had to work this weekend and i hate to play when i am working, but I made it through a busy weekend and I will get a good sleep tonight as I am off the next three days.

Take care all and good luck to Nam and Allen Le Mike Grazc and Mark Seif along with Chad Brown who are all still in the 25k Bellagio WPT Event. Also Bryan Devonshire is fourth in chips after getting knocked down to about 10k earlier today.

Good Luck Fellas.........

take care. be safe

New Technology

Date: Fri, Apr 18, 2008 Professional Internet Tournament

I'm not sure what repairs are being done to the apartment complex pool (which is about 50 inches from my bedroom window) at 8am this morning, but it sounds serious. From what I could tell auditorially, they are attempting to tunnel to middle earth using a nuclear powered pneumatic power needle. There also might be a laser-plasma wrecking ball and twelve or thirteen thousand guys shooting assault rifles at it.

The title screens for Juno and that new movie Remember Sarah Something with the guy from the show with Doogie Howser are exactly the same. Is the entertainment industry really out of ideas to such an extent that they can't even come up with original title screens anymore?

Jack Binion

Date: Sun, Apr 13, 2008 Professional Internet Tournament

Guys, I haven't recorded the Phil Hellmmuth interview for this week's show yet, but he's got one hell of a stick to measure against. I just finished the Jack Binion interview (we're pre-recording both interviews to accommodate their respective busy schedules) and I may be more excited about it than any I've veer done for Wise Hand Poker Radio. Granted, I geek out over anything history-oriented, but I think people are going to learn a lot from listening to one of the truly instrumental and remarkable men of the game.

On another note, I wanted to let you know I'm putting off writing about last week's banning for a couple of days and many more. Emotions were running high on Friday, but Mason and I live in the same world and I still have hopes of it being large enough for the both of us. Sorry if that's a letdown, gossip-mongers:)

Thanks again to everyone who voiced their support privately and publicly. I can't say enough that it meant a lot to me. Hope you're enjoying your Sunday,

Gary Wise

Wise Hand Poker - 2008-04-11

Date: Fri, Apr 11, 2008 Professional Internet Tournament

Hey folks,

I'm sorry it's been a while since I've posted. I'm in the midst of an extremely busy stretch right now; one that I hope should clear itself a little in the next week or two. Still, there's something going on right now that I feel like I should address briefly here.

I've been banned from 2+2 and people seem to be displeased about it, which is gratifying. I want to thank everyone who's come to my defense in this issue. That said, while I'm not prepared to delve into the minutia yet (I'm going to post something more thorough on Monday), I need to address a post Mason Malmuth just made.

In that post, Mason wrote the following:

"Furthermore, in a private conversation with Gary Wise a couple of weeks ago, we tried to make this point clear to him as well, but he refused to listen to what we said and thus our conversation did not last very long."

This is the latest in a string of outright lies told by Mason. He attempted no such thing. The only conversation he and I have had lately came the night that Mark Newhouse appeared on Wise Hand Poker Radio. Mark had been banned that day as a part of Mason's I-tried-to-exploit-Brandi-and-it-blew-up-in-my-face purge, so to inspire interest in the show I had the banner trumpeting him as a guest changed to include 'The recently banned' in front of his name.

Half an hour before the show, I received a call from Mark. He informed me that he'd just spoken to mason, that the ban had been lifted and that mason had asked that Mark pass a message on to me. That message was "If he in any way does anything to harm me or my company, he will feel the full wrath of 2+2." Considering David Sklansky, a part of the company, had less than a week before been revealed to have threatened physical harm to Brandi Hawbaker (with acid??), I took the threat as a serious one to both my livelihood and physical being. I also considered delivering the message through a friend to be a remarkably cowardly act. I was pissed.

I called Mason up and identified myself. His first words were "Let me make something very clear..." at which point I cut him off, yelling angrily until he hung up the phone. Neither I nor Newhouse had any affiliation with neverwinpoker.com at the time. For that matter, I'd never so much as posted there. The chances that conversation was going to relate specifically to neverwinpoker were less than good.

Mason's practiced a lot of hypocrisy throughout the last few days, and I've tried to stay quiet and hope a more civil resolution could be reached. I see now that he's going to continue to lie in an attempt at damage control; fortunately, it seems that every time he does so, he pours kerosene on the fire. I'll address the rest and the bigger issues involved in a few days when I have a more level head and fewer looming deadlines. Take care,

Gary Wise
www.wisehandpoker.com

PS: I should add here, the most ludicrous aspect of Mason's message to me was that if he'd ever listened to my show, he'd know it's as far from inflammatory as any on the air. His reputation would have been safe from me in taking any action except the one he did.

Poker Happenings in Los Angeles

Date: Fri, Apr 11, 2008 Professional Internet Tournament

I have not been playing as much Poker this past week as I had been. I played last Tuesday in the $255.00 buy in event at the Hustler's Spring fever series.

In level 4 after building my stack up to 7500 chips by playing small pots and being aggressive in position, I finally got a pocket pair of 9's in the cutoff position.

The blinds were 300-150 and I raised to 1200 chips. I had been tight all night and the only other show down i had was AA vs KQ with a K on the flop. I only won about 1200 chips because the blinds were only 50-25 at the time. The rest of my chips came from being very creative.

I was called by the big blind and the flop came out 4h-9c-8h. I hit my set and I bet 1500 chips and the BB went all in. An aggressive player who had just come to the table about 10 minutes prior. I have played with him in the past and he is one of those players who hates giving up his blinds,no matter how big or small they are at the time.

I figured he was either open ended had a flush draw or was just down right Bluffing, because he went ALL-IN for about 5900 chips more. So I called and he had QJ of hearts. Well he didn't hit his flush as the 4c came on the turn but the 10c came on the river to give him a straight and I was on my way home again scratching my head and wondering what it's going to take for me to be able to win some races.

Anyway I took my loss graciously and did not let it discourage me as it use too. I logged onto Full Tilt and played a 54 person SNG for 26.00 and won $472.00..

The Stars and Stripes series started at the Bicycle Casino last night with a $100.00 buy in event. I stayed at home because we are having a party Saturday for my Son-In-Law who just returned from Iraq yesterday. Good news since President Bush stopped all troops from leaving Iraq until after August 1st, additionally it is my Wife's birthday Monday, so we are going to celebrate her 41st also.

I was going to Vegas on Tuesday to play the Venetian Deepstack Event but that may have to wait a week, so my next event will be Wednesday's $225.00 buy in at the Stars and Stripes. Hopefully it will not have 615 players as they had last night. I am sure Ron Kramer and Denny Williams had their hands full last night.

The rest away will be good and eventually I will start winning these races,I am sure of it.

Don't forget if you have any questions or stories e-mail me at krwisehand@sbcglobal.net.">pkrwisehand@sbcglobal.net.

Take care all...Be safe

Lessons Learned and Lifes Precious Moments

Date: Sun, Apr 6, 2008 Professional Internet Tournament

By now all of you know I have been in Law Enforcement for over 20 years. One can only imagine the tragedies and destruction I have witnessed through some of the most turbulent years in Los Angeles history.

I had my 52nd birthday last week and I think I am becoming like a bottle of wine, finer with old age. Certain things that never used to bother me, such as a sentimental movie or touching stories seem to give me a little knot in my throat.

As I have said before many times I have been blessed with so much in my life and now that I have the Two sets of twins I know, I definitely am.

In todays Los Angeles Times there is an article written by Randy Pausch who is a College Professor who was forced to retire due to pancreatic cancer and the diagnosis of only about 3 months to live.

Randy is married to the love of his life and together they have 3 children under the age of 6 years. As Randy prepared to give his last lecture at Carnegie Mellon University where he taught Computer Science, his 6 year old son told him to tell his students, "Please tell them about having fun, because that's what I'll remember you for"

Randy had a realization as I did many years ago, each of us must make a decision whether to be the fun loving "Tigger" the laughable wonderful Tiger from Winnie the Pooh or to be Eeyore, the sad-sack unmotivated Donkey from the same Winnie the Pooh stories.

In bold letters in the article Randy said, " I KNOW I AM DYING, SO HERE'S WHAT I WANT TO TELL MY CHILDREN"

LET KIDS BE THEMSELVES:::::

I want my kids to become what they want to become and not try and figure out what I wanted them to become! I also want them to feel as if I am there with them no matter what path they choose.

MAKE TIME FOR WHAT MATTERS:::::

Time is all you have, and you may find one day you have less than you think!

LOOK FOR THE BEST IN EVERYBODY:::::

If you wait long enough people will surprise and impress you. When your frustrated with people, when your angry with people,it may be because you have not given them enough time. In the end people will show you their good side, just keep waiting it will come out.

These three things I have practiced for years, and more so since the twins were born. For those of you who know me out of Law Enforcement might still wonder how a cop with 20 plus years is not a hard nose S.O. B.

It's like a Poker game, you have to put on your Poker face when you go to work and there are many times you have to be aggressive and many times you have to bluff in my line of work.

Reading articles about people like Randy who was given only 3 months to live last September and is still with us today, should give us all the will to become better in any thing we do in our lives and to be thankful for each and everyday that comes and goes.

You have heard the words more than once I am sure, "Live each and everyday as your last" I always have and always will and I thank all of you for giving me the opportunity to talk with you, sit at a Poker table with you, or just hang out.

God Bless Randy Pausch and his family .....Take Care

Bad Beats?? Have some Advice?? Lets Hear It.

Date: Sat, Apr 5, 2008 Professional Internet Tournament

I am going to set up an e-mail account on my home computer for YOU the readers to send me your bad beat stories or advice you may have in the Poker World. Complaints gripes,(about Poker please)that you need to get off your chest.

I think people should listen to bad beat stories more often as you can learn from them. I know there are a lot of great Poker minds out there that read my blogs and do not have the forum to discuss certain situations, so I will truly enjoy any and all input.

Any really good topic I will forward to Gary and maybe he will use it on his Rounders Radio Show. Although I am not popular enough to be on his Show....I am sure Gary will use anything good in the Poker Community.

I will set up the account this evening and will post here. Hope all of you have a great weekend....Be safe...Take care...

ok any questions gripes or bad beats....pkrwisehand@sbcglobal.net
