I'm finally gonna do another blog entry, but it's probably not going to be as long as it could be as I won't go into too many details.
One night Little Kraut, Clamface, and I decided to play some MTTs. Me and Clam were both pretty deep in the nightly (he had 28K, I had 21K) & he called me asking if I wanted to swap for 50% of each other. Since we're both good players & it's high variance I said yes. It was a roller coaster the ride the rest of the way. Both of us were in and out of the top 5/10. I obviously wasn't going to try to climb the pay ladder & was playing for 1st so when an aggressive player raised in the CO I made a standard re-shove w/ something like QT (can't remember if it was suited or offsuit) considering stack sizes & his ranges. He obviously woke up w/ AK & held so I busted around 47th. I was on to sweating Clam. Clam made a couple of the nittiest folds I had ever seen. I won't go into detail but it all worked out. Then when they were 4 handed he made basically his only move of the tournament, re-shoving 86s. The guy called w/ A9 but the flop came bink, bink, giving Clam trips. GG sir. What a box. When they were 3 handed all players were pretty good and even in chips & someone asked to discuss a chop. Everyone agreed. Clam had a slight chip lead so he got just under $30K. That means that just under $15K went to me. Nice swap sir. It was about 2 am when the tourney finished so me, Clam, & Kraut went out to celebrate. Clam chose his 2nd home, The Rhino, for the occasion. What a degen.
The 3 of us decided to play a $550 Venetian deep stack tournament one day. Upon arriving I looked around the room & saw a lot of gray hair. Let's just say there were a lot of nitty old men. I like to see this in a poker tournament as these players often overplay their big pairs & pay you off 200BBs deep when you hit the flop big w/ a small pair or suited connector. They also seem to be the type to berate you for what the mathematical young players see as standars shoves late game. We started w/ 15K in chips w/ the blinds at 25/50. There were about 500 entrants & the top prize was around $50K. I sat down at my table & soon realized there were a few aggressive young players at the other end of the table who seemed to be playing well. It was almost certainly a tougher than average table for the tournament but at least the good players were at the other end of the table. The players seemed to be pretty easy to control so I started out playing very aggressively, raising hands like K2s in middle position & J2s in late position. I ran into a couple big hands early where I lost a lot of chips that I couldn't have avoided. In one hand I made it 125 under the gun w/ 55, the donk fish calling station lady to my left called, & an aggressive young European made it like 425 in late position. Considering that we had 15K behind us I considered it a very easy call to try and flop a set & win a big pot. Donk fish calling station lady called behind me as well. At this point I put DFCSL on basically any hand in the top 50% or so since she seemed to hate folding, & I put the re-raiser on a big pair or AK. The flop came QT5. Bingo. I flopped a set of 5s. I thought about leading out but decided to go for a check-raise. I checked, DFCSL checked, and the re-raiser made around a pot sized bet. I check-raised for an amount around triple his bet, DFCSL somehow folded her hand so she must not have had a pair, & the re-raiser called. At this point I thought his most likely holdings were AA, KK, or QQ. I certainly don't think he's calling that check-raise w/ AK. There's an outside chance he could have a hand like JJ or TT, but I thought that was pretty unlikely. I didn't think he was very likely to re-raise a UTG raise so deep w/ either of these hands & he'd most likely fold JJ after the check-raise anyway. On to the turn: in my head I'm saying "no ace, no king, no ace, no king". Doh. A king spikes on the turn. I wanted to puke but held back. The pot was very large & I didn't see much point in leading out and committing a large portion of my stack at this point. I checked hoping he would just check behind. He declined and made about a pot size bet (about half his remaining stack). At this point I was pretty sure I was folding but I tanked to think through the hand & try to get some sort of physical tell on him. There's an outside chance he has a hand like AA or JJ, but I think he's actually pretty likely to check behind w/ both of those hands on that turn, or fold the flop w/ JJ. He seemed pretty calm as well, so I thought it was pretty unlikely he was pulling some random bluff, which is very unlikely anyway since he called a flop check-raise from a UTG raiser. I figured there was no way I could talk myself into calling against his range & folded. Puke. Not long after I pick up AA at 50/100. I make it 400 after Limpasaurus Rex makes his favorite limp 50% of hands play right in front of me, DFCSL obv calls behind me. The rest of the table folds & to my surprise limpasaurus rex folds as well. The flop comes ace, rag, rag w/ 2 clubs. I made a continuation bet looking 1/2 pot bet & DFCSL called. I thought about making a bigger bet but had seen DFCSL fold to bigger bets earlier, while always calling small to medium sized bets. Also, before I go any further, I had seen her bet T4s the entire way on a KJT85 3 heart board earlier in a raised pot (multiway on flop & turn). I still don't know if she was trying to value bet or bluff & I don't think she knows either. The turn was a blank, I bet between 2/3 & 3/4 pot & she obv called. The river was a club. Yawn. I saw no point in betting at this point, especially since she seemed to love to bet mediocre hands. I checked, she bet a little under the size of the pot, & there's no way I should ever fold top set against this lady but unfortunately she had chased down a flush this time. A couple of unlucky hands early that left me w/ under 9K. Had things gone my way I could have chipped up. However, I continued my aggressive ways raising a lot of hands & destroying the donks at my table & still managed to chip up to 19K before the 1st break. Little Kraut had a nice 30-40K stack & break & Clam had about 12K. Clam busted shortly after break. I soon got moved to another table, which was a bad beat. About half the table played for a living. I had to switch gears a lot & pick my spots at this table as opposed to keeping my foot on the gas the entire way as I did at my last table. I had about 25K when I sat down. I won about 18K off one lady when I raised from the hijack w/ KK & smooth called her re-raise. She then overbet shoved a J-9-rag flop w/ AQ & I held. In another hand, a short stack in the CO immediately to my right w/ about 8K opened for 2100 in the CO. I had QQ & made a standard re-raise. Everyone folds back to the original raiser who went into the tank for what seemed like forever. At this point I figured I was way ahead & really really wanted him to call. How could he possibly be tanking w/ a hand that does decent against QQ when he opened for over 1/4th his stack in the CO & got re-raised by the button? He finally says "alright I call since I like ya." I was then shocked when he flipped over AK. How anyone could possibly tank w/ AK in that spot is beyond me. The first card that's flops is an ace but the 2nd card is a Q & he's sent packing. I was then chip leader at the table w/ somewhere between 45K & 50K. However, the blinds continued to climb at a ridiculous rate & nothing really went right. I lost some pots standard raising & getting re-raised or continuation betting. Even a small pot like that was pretty big w/ the blinds & several of them add up. I then lost 2 big coin flips to bust out: 55 vs AQ & 99 vs AJ. I finished around 240th. GG 7 hours of my life. MTTs truly are horrible unless you play a lot of them to get in a decent sample size or you can just run like a Greek God. I do neither unless I'm swapping w/ someone.
I won't go into detail about the rest of the trip. It was the standard going out to eat, going to shows, going to clubs/strip clubs, etc... I did managed to get owned at credit card roulette a couple more times. One bill me & Clam chopped for about $400-$450 each & another I got stuck with for $400-$450. I run good at that game. I didn't really do too much the last couple days in Vegas because I felt like death. I still feel kinda shitty but am feeling better. I'm at my girlfriend Paula's right now so I'm playing pretty minimally on my laptop while she's at clinicals. I've been playing more on Pokerstars & my third site since you can shrink the tables smaller on Cake & I can play more tables on my laptop. I plan on going camping & fishing this weekend w/ Paula's family. Hopefully I feel better by then.
I really don't feel like posting daily/weekly stats since I didn't play as much in Vegas & it's time consuming so I'm just going to post monthly & yearly results this blog. I'm merging MTT, cash game, live, & HU SNG profits all into one. The hourly rate listed is only for 6 man & 9-10 man SNGs & does not include any of these or staking. The hours played listed as also only SNGs but I've probably only played 20 hours of other games all year. I'm going to count my swap w/ Clamface as staking.

I arrived in Vegas late the night of the 2nd w/ my girlfriend Paula. Kenny05 had already went home because he's sick. That left Little Kraut & chiefsfan17 in our house. Our house is really nice. It has a pool & jacuzzi in the backyard, whirlpool in the master bathroom (my room), 5 bedrooms or so, a pool table, a nice size TV, etc...
We spent a lot of the first couple days just chillin in the pool/jacuzzi during the day & sight seeing at night. On Thursday we went out to eat w/ Little Kraut (Bobby), clamface (Doug), DumpingKGB, Playaplz, dpeters17, & a few other players. We went to a steakhouse called The Prime at the Bellagio. Me, Paula, & Little Kraut were late because we called a cab from our house & literally waited for it for an hour before it arrived. This was pretty frustrating since me & Paula had tickets to a show that night. The food at The Prime was really good & I'm pretty it was the best steak I've ever had. We played credit card roulette to see who ended up with the bill & being the luckbox that I am I got stuck w/ the $1K+ bill. Rigged. Paula & I left immediately & went to The Beatles Love show at the Mirage. I'm a pretty big Beatles fan & loved the Fab Four show I went to last year so I had high hopes for the show, especially considering I had heard good things about it. Going in I thought it was going to be a live band singing Beatles songs w/ the show going on at the same time. It turned out to be just a show w/ Beatles music playing. There were a couple good parts but all in all it was extremely weird & I think you either have to be into theatre or dropping acid to enjoy the show. I was neither so I wasn't a big fan.
I didn't do much for the 4th of July because I had to play the Main Event on the 5th. We hung out by the pool during the day & then Paula & I headed to the strip to watch the fireworks. Needless to say we sat there forever & didn't see any fireworks so we went just went to eat & went home. I'm not sure what the deal was there.
When I arrived at my table for the main event there was nobody there & the dealer informed me that my table was the ESPN feature table & I had to go over to the stage. Before I even got through the ropes I had Pokerstars people offering me $10K to wear their apparel for the feature table. This put me in a quandry. I had a free seat from Stars for being supernova elite but had taken cash instead so I could represent Cake in the hopes of having my 1 year deal turn into a lifetime deal. I told them I needed some time & called Chris (VP of Cake) & told him about the Pokerstars offer & asked if Cake could do anything for me. He made a couple calls & got back to me. We agreed that if I wore Cake gear at the feature table my 1 year special rakeback deal would turn into a lifetime deal. Sounds good to me. Ship it. At this point the event had already started. Obviously it was worth it for me to sit out of the event 200BBs deep to get the best deal. The Cake gear I was wearing wasn't regulation for the feature table because it didn't say .net on it. I didn't know ahead of time that I was at the feature table & had just planned on getting regulation gear from Chris at one of the breaks. Chris wasn't at the Rio yet but had some Cake gear dropped of at the bell desk. I then had to walk all the way across the Rio to the bell desk. At that point they were saying they couldn't release the box of Cake gear to me because it wasn't under my name. Great. Finally I got Chris on the phone & got them to release it to me. I grabbed a shirt & hat & headed back to the WSOP room. They got me miced up & I was about 25 minutes late. I sat down & the only player I recognized was Matusow. My originall plan was to play pretty loose aggressive, opening a lot of hands w/ small raises & trying to build a big stack when I hit a big flop & stack a donkey who can't fold top pair. Within about 5 minutes I realized it was a really tough table & changed my plan. I could tell the player 2 to my right was a good LAG, the player to my left was talking about how he plays in Daniel Negraneu's home game, there was a girl at the table that people were saying is some pro, & the whole table was reading hands very well & talking about laying down sets. I have a really tough table in the easiest tournament of the year. Great. I decided that playing ultra LAG might not be the best option against these players & tightened up. I was still playing looser than most people, raising any pair or suited connector in 1st position, but I basically stuck to big hands & good speculative hands & avoided raising hands like 64o.
Nothing too eventful happened for a while. I just won & lost some small pots. I was up about 1,500 at the 1st break. In level 2 (100/200) I opened w/ QQ in middle position & the player to my immediate left tripled my raise. I obviously called & the flop came 10 high w/ 2 diamonds. I checked & he bet. Now against a lot of players I would check-raise this flop but he was a good player & I didn't think he would call my check-raise w/ a worse hand. Moreover, we were still 100 BBs deep & I didn't want to go to crazy w/ this hand. I decided to just call. The turn brought a third diamond. Now a hand like AdKd had me beat. I checked & he checked behind. The river was a blank & at that point I thought there was no point in betting against this particular player. It went check, check & I scopped the pot as he mucked. I'm guessing he either had AK, JJ, or was just making a move. That put me at about 25K. The very next hand as I was stacking my chips I looked down at 5c4c in middle position. After you win a nice pot & are stacking chips most players put you on a bigger than normal hand when you raise because most people will fold weaker hands so they can continue to stack their chips. I like to raise a tad more often than normal in this spot. That said, I'm raising 54s in that spot every time anyway so I made it 600. The SB & BB both called. The flop came A87 w/ 2 clubs. That's a monster flop for me w/ a flush draw & a gut shot. The SB checked & The BB led for 2K. He had 11K behind after leading out & it was decision time for me. I obviously wasn't folding to his bet so it was between calling & raising. Considering the pot odds & implied odds I could just call with this hand. I don't like it though. I prefer to raise w/ a hand like this & keep fold equity on my side. If I raise he will fold the majority of the time & he calls or re-raises I usually won't be much worse than a 55-45 dog. That's a good spot to semi-bluff. W/ my image & the way the table had been playing, I thought he would fold to a committing flop raise unless he had 2 pair or better. I made it 6,000 to go. If he shoved I would only have to call 7,000 more & would have an easy call getting 2.5:1. After I make it 6,000 he has to know he has little to know fold equity w/ only 7K more to come over the top of my raise with. After I make it 6,000 he instantly shoves. I asked for a count & immediately called. The whole table thought I had a set. Nope. Just 5 high here. He flipped over A8 & I obviously brick the turn & river. I was down to about 12K. The whole table was a little shocked at my play but imo they're all just a bunch of nits & my play was completely standard. As I've said, he'll usually fold to my raise & if he doesn't I'm usually not much worse than 55-45. The obvious play is to raise. Matusow makes a comment that he had me pegged as the best player at the table until that play. He then says that he's not willing to gamble for that many chips. I disagree when I'm the one making the committing raise, putting my opponent to the test. Our table was really tough & even if I hit a big hand I wasn't likely to get paid off. Sitting around like a nit waiting for a big hand wasn't going to do you much good unless you were lucky enough to have a monster when someone else had another monster.
I lose a few small pots & my stack dwindles to about 8,000 to 8,500. Matusow makes it 600 to go in the CO & the LAG button calls. The SB folds & I look down at KdQd in the BB. If my stack were a little lower I would have considered making a squeeze play but I just don't like that play w/ over 40BBs. I had an easy call. The flop came 9 high w/ 2 diamonds. I had 2 overs w/ a flush draw. 40BBs deep in an MTT I think the best play there is to make a pot committing check-raise on the flop. You're usually a small favorite or small dog & with fold equity on your side it's the obvious play. I check, Matusow bets a little less than pot, the button folds & I made a check-raise for most of my chips, making it obvious that I wasn't folding. Matusow moved all in & flipped over A9 for top pair. I was a small favorite. Obviously he turns another 9 & I brick the river. GG me. I managed to bust out of a tournament in level 2 when we started w/ 200BBs. Well played. That said, I think I made the right plays in every single pot I played. I'll let you guys know when it's on ESPN.
Me & Paula just did some more sight seeing that night & then her flight left in the morning. Yesterday I played some online. I played a couple hours on Bobby's desktop, mixing Pokerstars & Cake. I normally table select on Pokerstars but Bobby's setup didn't have enough room for the lobbies so I was just signing up blind. The games were absolutely ridiculous, confirming my belief that double VPP week is the most overrated promotion ever & the games are more profitable overall (w/ rakeback) on a normal week. Every game had at least 3-4 good regulars. My favorite was a $235 I played w/ Kenny05, MrCasino, Comma_d, leoc00 (or something like that), & Psimalive. All are good winning players. I started off awful & was down about $3-$4K. I managed to come back though. I played a few more hours 6-8 tabling Cake on my laptop & made a little over $4K on the day overall.
At night we went to some steakhouse (N9ne I think) at the Palms w/ basically the same group as the last time we went to dinner + chiefsfan17. The food was decent & I didn't get owned in credit card roulette again. We then got a limo the Rhino at around 11:45. Most of them only stayed a couple hours but me, Bobby, & Doug stayed til about 7 am. We then cabbed it to Denny's for a nice breakfast before we went to bed.
Today I slept til 3:30 & didn't do much except get a new sprint card & get that setup. Tonight we're going to the Pokerstars party & I better get going cause Doug is gonna be here in half an hour.

I finished off the month strong & made almost $84K in June overall. At one point I thought I was at a $100K month but I figured out that I had just made some miscaclulations on previous blog entries. I had double checked everything because it just didn't seem right that I made over $100K while playing less than 140 hours during the month. $83K+ will do the trick though.
Today my last 3 stakees are finally starting. The 3 stakees starting today are MJCACE on Full Tilt, iggypok on Ongame, & Pr0poker on ipoker. I'm pretty excited to have all of them going as I now have 7 stakees under me. It will be fun to see their progression & how much bank they can make in the next year. I know all 3 of them have already improved a lot in the past month or so that they've received my coaching. I have pretty high exppectations for them all.
I've been playing a fair amount the last couple weeks with this player w/ the screen name jkhub3000. It can actually get confusing when I have 10-16 tables going. In one instance I glaced at his name & thought it was me as he scooped a large pot. Then I'm in a pot w/ him a couple of hands later & realize it wasn't me. Sigh. I might have to start using the preferred seat option to avoid any confusion. There's also a notjhub3000, but I'm pretty sure it's the same person as jscrub3000 was.
Going into the NBA draft I expected the T-Wolves to fuck something up & not take O.J. Mayo. It gets to us with the third pick & we actually pick him. I was pumped. Later that night I'm at the Bars & happen to glance at the TV right as they're talking about OJ Mayo being traded to the Grizzlies for Kevin Love. Sigh. I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up too high w/ Kevin McHale running the operation. You would think he would finally take the safe pick: O.J. Mayo, the future superstars who will actuallyu put some fans in the Target Center seats. Of course he wouldn't, he's Kevin McHale, the same guy that has drafted high or traded for such studs as Ndudi Ebi, William Avery, Rashad McCants, & Marco Jaric. He's the guy who made an under the table deal for scrubby Joe Smith, who never did anything; in which we lost several 1st round picks as punishment. On one end we get Kevin Love, Mike Miller, & unload Marco Jaric's ridiculous contract. I think Kevin Love will be a solid NBA player (not an all star), Miller will be our starting SG & should be solid as well, and getting Jaric's contract off the books will free up some cap room. On the other end you just don't pass up the opportunity take a player of OJ Mayo's calibur. These are the kind of moves that make GMs look silly. OJ Mayo will be a stud for years to come & was exactly what the Wolves needed to put some excitement back into the franchise. McHale hasn't exactly had much success with previous draft day swaps of top 5 picks either. They traded Stephon Marbury for Ray Allen. Marbury didn't stay with the team long & has never turned out to be more than an overpaid, whiny, shoot 1st point guard who can't help his team win. Meanwhile Ray Allen has consistently been an all star & one of the league's leading scorers for the last decade. Now he's teamed up with KG in Boston & just won a championship. If McHale had never traded Allen I think KG would have stayed happy in Minnesota & maybe they could have been the one winning the championship. More recently, McHale made another draft day deal in which he traded Brandon Roy to Portland for Randy Foye. While Foye has struggled with injuries & been less than stellar when he's healthy, all Brandon Roy has done is win rookie of the year & make the all star team. I'll admit, the players aren't far enough in their careers to fairly rate that deal, but it's not looking good. That said, I don't think the Love for Mayo deal was that bad, but I'm certainly not a fan of it. Kevin McHale is the worst GM in sports, period. If he wasn't friends with the owner Glen Taylo he would have gotten the axe a long time ago. Ok, so that's my rant on Kevin McHale sucking.
I had a $1K piece of Bigjoe2003 (Joey Michael) in the $50K HORSE event & he had a strong showing, finishing 14th. I think I made somewhere between $1K & $1,500 off the deal but I haven't exactly cared enough to run the calculations, nor have I talked to Joey since. I haven't received payment yet so it won't be included in my stats. I also had a $1K piece of Little Kraut in the $5K 6 handed event on the 26th but no cash there.
I bubbled both of the $1Ks I played last week, which is always fun. In one of them the biggest lagtard ever raised on the button & I re-shoved something like A9 or AJ for 12-15BBs. This guy was seriously raising at least 80% of the hands, if not 90-100% but he obviously woke up with AK. Oh well.
On Sunday I played some MTTs & played some of the high stakes SNGs with them. I basically ran like ass in the MTTs, which is standard. I didn't keep track of my hours played on Sunday cause I was kind of dicking around & wasn't playing anywhere near my full load. MTTs are so frustrating because I'll never put in the same size I need to with them to get to the long run, because they just aren't worth it for me to play. I don't know how people play them for a living anyway. You don't have much freedom of scheduling & they can often take 10 hours. You're basically forced to work almost every weekend if you want to make any decent money because that's when all the big tournies are. While weekends are really the most profitable time to play for any form of poker, I generally don't play them because I have more things going on w/ friends, girlfriend, family, etc... on weekends, especially during spring & summer.
Other than Sunday I haven't played this week, & don't plan on it. I have other stuff I need to get done before Vegas & also wanted to finish up Gus Hansen's book, which was decent. Pokerstars is running double VPPs this week but that's probably the most overrated promotion of all time. Yeah you make double in VPPs but the promotion floods the games with good players & has a drastic impact on your ROI. If you are playing $235s & are supernova you will make about an extra $4 per game in VPPs. It takes less than a 2% ROI drop off your normal ROI to make the double VPP promotion less profitable than a normal week. From the looks of some of the games I've seen going during double VPP week, I'd say a 2% ROI drop should be expected. The only players it's good for are people going for supernova elite, or 1.25 million VPPs, 1.5 million VPPs, etc...
The WSOP is driving me nuts. I sent my pre-registration w/ a $10K cashier's check for the main event overnight somewhere around June 16th. I haven't heard one thing from them since on whether they've received my check or which day 1 I start on. This past weekend I emailed them about it & they sent some automated BS back saying they'll reply within 3-5 business days. Apparently they're really quick at replying to emails. I haven't received an email back yet so I decided to call them. I 1st called the # on the WSOP website. That sent me to another #, which was some automated BS, which then sent me to another #, which sent me to another #. I call the last # & get the answering machine. I get the voicemail, leave a message, & haven't received a call back yet. WTF! How can your customer service be that bad? The Rio is the same way. If I can't get a hold of them before I leave I'll have to go to the bank & get $10K cash to bring to Vegas, just in case my cashier's check didn't go through.
I leave for Vegas tomorrow night. My flight will get into Vegas late at night around 11-11:30. My girlfriend Paula is coming with me & leaving on the 6th because she is going to school to be an xray tech & has year round clinicals she can't get out of. I'll be staying in a house with kenny05 & Little Kraut, and whoever else happens to be staying there during the main event. I'm not sure who all will be there as people have been in & out of the house throughout the series. I don't plan on playing much online while I'm out there. It should be fun. I think it's going to be a lot more fun than last year. I get back from Vegas July 15th but then I'm going camping w/ Paula & her family that weekend so I won't be playing much until July 21st, at which point I should be back to a more normal schedule.
Last month I made $10,038.75 in rakeback on Cake. It was lower than normal since I played less. I got a $4,417.05 payment today, which is what you see in the stats. The other $5,621.70 will be paid within the next few days & will be added to my stats the next blog entry. I also made $1,165.44 in rakeback on my 3rd site last month, which will be paid later this month and added to my stats at that time.

We're not even halfway through the year & I'm already showing more in profit on sharkscope than last year's winner of the single table any stakes leaderboard. According to my Cake & Pokerstars sharkscope #s this year, I've made $175,270 from SNGs on those sites. That's missing about $17K of my actual 08 SNG profit from the combo of playing on another site, chops, & the fact that sharkscope is only 95% accurate. Last year's single table any stakes leader (infamouspade) only made $169,101 in SNGs the whole year. That's some pretty crazy stuff. I was leading the single table any stakes leaderboard by $30K going into last December, which was basically a lock, but then ended up having my worst month ever, losing over $31K before rakeback. The $1Ks were running much more often than normal due to people going for supernova elite & milestone bonuses & needless to say I ran as bad as I could in them. I still made more than anyone in 5-6 seated SNGs but making more than anyone in SNGs period was my ultimate goal. I don't think we'll be seeing another collapse this year as I've made over $65K than the 2nd place guy (DDBeast) this year & I feel I can sustain my win rate throughout the year. You don't get any prize for making the most money in SNGs or anything, but it's fun to follow & it's great for marketability purposes.
I didn't play much this week but I ran like a Greek God when I did so it's all good. I went out on the river one day & then Winona is having it's yearly Steamboat Days, which is basically just a drunk fest, so I went down there the last couple nights instead of playing.
My stakees made $3,587 this week. Mexitexi only played 7 games because he's on a family vacation, & of course 2 of them are in Vegas & not playing as much. I'm excited for 3 of my stakees to be starting July 1st, at which point I'll have 7 stakees. Also, the WSOP will be over in the middle of next month so my stakees who have already started will be playing more. I have high hopes for all of them. Once I have all 7 of them playing & the WSOP is over maybe I'll be able to pull out my 1st $100K month.
I'm currently 3rd on this week's $300+ SNG leaderboard on Pokerstars. Hopefully nobody passes me in the next couple days because I also like $1K in free money. Either way I'll get some money out of it as I'm obviously not falling out of the top 10 in the next 2 days.
Congrats to BigJoe2003 for final tables the Razz event at the WSOP.
Someone asked me this week if I'm jhub3000 on ipoker. Apparently someone is playing under that name on that network. No it's not me. In fact, US players aren't even allowed to play on ipoker as it's for foreign players only. One of my friends was playing w/ someone named jhub6000 at the low stakes Cake games the other day. There's also now a jscrub3000 on Cake, & it's actually 1 of my friends. It's funny because people were asking him if he didn't like me or something because of the scrub part in his name.
I love it when I start up a session & someone in the chat asked me if I ever sleep. Somebody asked me that this week & I hardly even played 20 hours the whole week. Poker is my job and they know that so what do they expect? When they walk into their 40 hour per week day job does their boss say "geez Joe do you ever sleep? Man you've been here at least 40 hours this week." I would guess that they don't. I play poker for a living & play a lot less than anybody works at a normal day job. Stop asking me dumb questions.
Cake added 6 man regular SNGs this week. They now have non turbo 6 man SNGs at the $25, $49, $128, $200, $268, & $426 levels. This should be good as some players prefer non turbos & it gives the high stakes players more games to select from. Even if you prefer turbos, it's certainly going to be more profitable to play a $200 non turbo than a $78 turbo.
I've started reading Gus Hansen's new book & it's pretty decent so far. A lot of books are all based on the same tight-aggressive style, so I like when loose aggressive players come out with books. I plan on reading some of Daniel Negreanu's new book after I'm done with this one.
I've made $6,668.25 in rakeback on Cake this month & $758.23 on my 3rd site. These #s will be added to my results/stats at the beginning of next month when they're paid to my account. My rakeback has been a little lower this month since I haven't exactly been playing a lot.
I was glad to see the Celtics win the NBA championship. KG is my favorite player so that's the team I root for after the T-Wolves. It's just too bad that the T-Wolves have the worst GM in sports & couldn't put enough talent around Garnett to do it in Minnesota. Hopefully we pick O.J. Mayo in next weeks' draft & can start building a respectable team.

This week was a shorter week. I lost some hours because I was having mouse problems & other than that I've just been doing other things besides grinding SNGs. I bought a $150 Logitech mouse this week, which seems to be a waste. It was messing up all over. I would type in a bet & it would just randomly make the bet all in. Then I'd retype it & it would do the same thing. I clearly don't have time to be dealing with that nonsense w/ 10-16 6 mans going. There's some buttons on it so I turned those off & that didn't work & I ghave up. I then bought another logitech mouse. It took me a while to get used to this one. The speed of the mouse was different from my last one so it basically took a full day or 2 of trial & error of setting the mouse at different speeds for me to find the optimal speed on it. Logitech mouses come w/ software where you can change acceleration & speed & all that while still doing it in the control panel. I ended up just uninstalling the software & putting my mouse at the highest speed in the control panel. The software just seemed to complicate matters. I'm happy with the mouse now but it was pretty frustrating for a while. Other than that I did well when I played.
My stakees were crushing this week. Mexitexi from Pokerstars & Cake is my stakee on Cryptologic & IPN. He plays under Mexitexi on Crypto & Mexitex on IPN. He's probably going to play the least hours of all of my stakees but he plays well so he should still make some good money while going to college. He made about $3K in very limited hours this week. He probably only played about 11 or 12 hours but might play more tomorrow. 1 of my stakees who plays on Stars & is also mixing in Cake & 1 other site managed to make over $10K this week despite being in Vegas for the WSOP & he still expects to put in a good amount of hours before the week is over. I'm pretty goodfident that this stakee is going to make me 6 figures over the course of our 1 year staking deal by himself. Another stakee that's in Vegas made about $2K while probably only playing a handful of hours. These profits don't even include rakeback so it was a good week for my stakees. These #s aren't included in my stats until we cashout. My bro has also continued to crush since turning pro last week.
I staked 1 of my stakees in the $1,500 WSOP shootout, which is massively +EV for a good SNG player. No luck for us though as he re-shoved AT against a button raise & took a 3 outer against A5. I also had 10% of Dr. Fells & 10% of thetight in the $10K HU event today but neither advanced. Both are very good HU players & Dr. Fells actually took 3rd/4th in the $5K HU last year. It loos like I picked the wrong year to take a percentage of him. Big live events are obviously high variance, but they're also often very +EV events so I decided to take a few shots. Despite being down $3,500 in live staking this week, it was still a fine week of staking overall, although it doesn't look that way in the stats section since the only online staking included is cashouts.
The chat box has been pretty funny on my third site this week. I've been berated by the donks quite a bit. I usually have chat off but still am able to catch some things when it's on. My favorite was comment was that I'm easily the worst high stakes player on the site. Lmao if he only knew. Clearly anyone who says that about my game just doesn't understand optimal SNG strategy.
I'm going to a Twins-Brewers game in Milwaukee tomorrow night. We have a group of about 20 of us & we'll be tailgating & then hitting up the bars afterwards so it should be a good time. That means I won't be playing tomorrow, which isn't much different as I usually don't play on Saturday, or Friday for that matter.
Go Celtics! I can't believe they're up 3-1. I'm definitely rooting for KG to get a ring as he's probably my favorite player in the NBA. Before the series started I thought the Celtics COULD win but if I was forced to bet $50K on the winner I have to admit I would have bet on the Lakers. The Celtics better not blow this.
The regular 6 man SNGs on Cake should be added either sometime this weekend or early next week. I've also requested that the HU SNGs have their own section in the lobby, but that might take longer.
So far I've made $5,360.25 in rakeback on Cake this month. I've also made $676.24 in rakeback on my third site this month, although I'm pretty sure that's a few days behind as it takes longer for that site to update rakeback stats. These #s won't be included in my stats until the beginning of next month when they are actually paid to my account.

I'm done playing for the week. As usual, I won't be playing the weekend. I did pretty well this week. I had a pretty standard week. I didn't run too well on Cake & Pokerstars but I made good money on my third site. I'm really on a roll in the Pokerstars $1Ks lately. Of the 54 I've played this year I've made $8,118 w/ a 13% ROI. Compare that to the 20 I played last year w/ a -61% ROI & losses of $13,614. Obviously it's a very small sample & my long run ROI is nowhere near 13% in $1Ks. However, my long run ROI in them is also nowehere near -61%, or negative for that matter, & it just feels good to finally like be running like complete ass in them.
I've already made more this year than I did in the entire year of 2007. I made $251,388.84 playing online last year, but had $12,350 in live losses from big tournaments, so my total profit was $239,038.84. I've made $244,435.88 so far this year. As far as money made strictly from SNGs without rakeback, last year I made $148,049 & I've made $172,033.27 this year. I think I've improved a lot since the end of last year & really taken my game to another level. I think Playing on Cake has helped my profit a ton as well. Now that I have my special rakeback deal w/ Cake & am getting a bunch of stakees under me I hope I can make $700K to $800K this year. It's definitely doable. I just need to make sure I don't slack off on playing & put the time into coaching my stakees so that they can quickly become top players.
My oldest brother Jeff turned pro this week. I'm really excited for him. He hasn't put in a full week yet because he has his son the last 2 days, but he'll be playing today & tomorrow & has done really well on the week so far. Back in the day when I played $38s I taught Jeff a few things & he would play some SNGs online when he had time. Then he stopped playing for a while. In July of last year he decided to start playing online again & really put in the dedication to eventually play for a living. 11 months later here he is. It will be fun to see how he does & progresses.
I've been pretty busy w/ stakees & some other stuff lately so my sleep has taken a hit. I've only been getting about 5 hours of sleep per night usually, 6 on a good night, as opposed to my normal 6-7 (usually 7). The only thing that bothers me is it makes me somewhat irritable when I'm running bad. In the last week or 2 I've found myself typing stuff in the chat several times when I take a bad beat, which I otherwise rarely do. However, I don't think the lack of sleep really effects my play at all, and in my opinion you can sleep when you die, so I'll probably continue to be lacking in sleep for a little while.
I'm going to be staking jalman69 in Pokerstars STEP SNGs. He's going to be playing mostly $215s & then just playing out his tickets. I won't be doing nearly as much coaching with him since STEPS aren't my specialty, but I have full confidence that he can be a big winner in these games.
Speaking of stakees, my stakee on Cryptologic & IPN started this week. I've also started coaching my other stakees, who will start on July 1st. After July 1st I will have 7 stakees playing under me (2 on Pokerstars & mixing in Cake when I'm not on, 1 on Full Tilt, 1 on ipoker, 1 on Ongame, 1 on IPN & Cryptologic, & 1 in Pokerstars STEPS). That should bring in a ton of money. My stakees I have on Pokerstars & Cake won't be playing much in the next month & a half because they're in Vegas for the WSOP. I'll be heading out there for the Main Event next month. My stakee on IPN & Cryptologic is Mexitexi from Pokerstars & Cake. I've played with him several times before so I know his game & have full confidence in him, especially with my coaching. His name is Mexitexi on Cryptologic & Mexsel on ipoker. Our agreement started on June 1st. He only plays part time so I think he'll probably be putting in somewhere around 20 hours per week. I'll let you know who the other players are when their agreements begin if they wish.
One of my stakees did a cashout this week so I got $2K from that. As I mentioned, cashouts will be kind of random for staking.
I talked to the VP of Cake yesterday about adding regular 6 man SNGs on with 10 minute blind levels on the site. I know there's some players on Stars who want to switch over or at least mix Cake in if they add them, particularly Jon9ball & CSKASOFIA. I also think it would be great for game selection for all players, even those who prefer turbos. Even if a high stakes player prefers turbos, he'd probably still rather play a $200 regular than a $78 turbo. I know I would. The VP liked the idea & the tournament director should be adding regular 6 mans at all levels up to $600 sometime in the next week.
Another thing he updated me on was the status of the Cake shop & new payment processor methods. Both of these have been delayed but you can expect the Cake shop to re-open with new items sometime in the next week or 2. They also hope to have EFTs & moneygram/Western Union up as payment processors within 2 to 3 weeks.
If anyone has Stars or Full Tilt money that they'd like to get rid of let me know. If you want to get rid of Stars money I can either swap you for Cake money or send you a personal check. If you want to get rid of FTP money I can either swap you for Cake or Stars money or send you a personal check. River Prayer was nice enough to swap me $1,500 of FTP money, but I still need about $13,500 on there for a stakee. Dr. Fells is likely getting me $8K on Stars but I could need up to $30K on there because that might be how I'm transferring my stakees their bankrolls. If you're able to get me FTP or Stars money please send me an email at jhub3000@hotmail.com.
I did an interview w/ pokerplasm.com today. It's already up at
http://www.pokerplasm.com/interviews/jared-hubbard.html
I thought the interviewer did a good job & he also got it up on the website extremely quickly. He said that my interview was definitely 1 of the top 3 he's ever done because i do a good job of going into detail.
I was also going to do an interview w/ a poker magazine but they wanted me to also do a strategy article where they revealed my hands for an entire SNG & talked through & anazyzed each hand. As you know, I'm not big on educating my opponents so that interview is off unless they want to do a normal interview or something.
Sparta45 has just started up a blog at http://sparta45.livejournal.com/. He's turning pro at the end of the year. I've talked strategy with him in the past & I think he'll do very well as a pro. He's also very intelligent & I think his blog will be interesting so check it out.
Due to my special rakeback deal with Cake, my rakeback is paid in 2 seperate payments. The first is the standard 33% which all rakeback players get paid on the 1st of the month. The 2nd payment is the difference between 33% & the % I get & that's usually made within the 1st few days of the month. The 2nd payment has to be manually entered by the VP because nobody else has a deal like this. I forget the exact day that rakeback is paid for my 3rd site, but I want to say it's sometime around the 11th.
So far this month I've made $3,291.75 in rakeback on Cake & $305.45 in rakeback on my third site. As is standard, this money won't be paid to my account until the beginning of next month & won't be listed under my stats/profit until then.
