It is the tournaments that make up the big network festivals like the FTOPS Series at Full Tilt Poker and ipoker networks ECOOP
Multi-table tournaments begin with players starting with a fixed number of chips. At numerous tables, players are in competition for each other's chips, while the blinds and antes are incrementally raised. As players are eliminated one-by-one, tables become "broken". This means that the players are moved around, in order to keep all the tables full, or even with one another. In the end, the last surviving players with chips are assigned to a final table. Here, the one who will win is the player who can win all the chips from every other player. We award cash prizes to the top finishers, on the basis of the number of tournament entries.
A satellite is a tournament in which the prize is actually an entry into a larger tournament. It can be less expensive to enter a satellite than it would be to directly enter the main tournament. It's like this: while the main tournament might demand a $200 buy-in, getting into a satellite may only take $20 - to win a $200 seat in the main tournament! Multi-table satellites are scheduled just like regular tournaments, with the sign-up details and play being identical.
To give an example of how a satellite works: The buy-in for the larger tournament is $200. The buy-in for the satellite is $20. If there are 10 entrants into the satellite, the player winning first place receives entry into the larger tournament. Where there are 20 entrants, then the 1st and 2nd place winners will gain entry to the larger tournament. In the event that there is any leftover prize money, then this amount will be distributed to the runners-up in accordance with the satellite's payout structure, which is available for review through the tournament lobby.
Should there be a fee to enter either a tournament or a satellite, then this will be shown by displaying the buy-in amount and the entry fee. A cost displayed as "30+3" would, therefore, indicate that the buy-in is $30 and the entry fee is $3. The $30 goes into the prize pool that the players compete for, while the $3 entry fee finances the hosting of the tournament.
There is another type of tournament. Poker rooms offer players a "freeroll" tournament, for which entry is completely free. Although players need not place a buy-in or entry fee, there are still cash prizes available for winning. You may access our Freeroll tournaments simply by first clicking on the "Tourney" tab in the main client window, and then on the "Freeroll" tab. These events are held daily on our site. Note that some of these are open to all players, and some are only open to players from certain countries.
A "Sit andGo" is a non-regularly scheduled tournament which begins automatically, when all the seats are filled. These tournaments can be found by clicking on the "Sit and Go" tab in the main client window. Several kinds of Sit and Go tournaments are on offer, including single table, multi-table, and heads-up events. Rebuy Tournaments
A rebuy tournament is where players have the opportunity to buy more chips during an event. In a standard "freezeout" tournament, if a player runs out of chips, then they're out of the tournament. However, in a rebuy tournament, players can (albeit with some restrictions) buy additional chips.
Below, some facts about rebuy tournaments:
There is a "rebuy period" at the beginning of the tournament. A typical rebuy period might be the first hour of the event (until the first break starts). Once that period is over, no more rebuys will be permitted.
During the rebuy period, there may be a fixed or unlimited number of rebuys available.
If you completely run out of chips, then you will automatically be offered a rebuy (if one is available). However, at any time you can click on the dealer tray and select the "Add More Chips" option. If you're not eligible for a rebuy (because you've reached the maximum number of rebuys), then you'll get a message to that effect.
You may usually rebuy using the "Add More Chips" button in the dealer tray at any time when your stack is less than or equal to the starting chip stack amount. In reality, this means you can even rebuy one time before the start of the actual tournament!
At the end of the rebuy period, an "add-on" may be available. This opportunity is typically offered during the first break. An add-on is the same as one extra rebuy, and you should note that it will not be automatically offered. Should you wish to take the add-on, wait for the message that "Players are now on break", and then click on the dealer tray and select the "Add More Chips" option. The add-on is usually available no matter how many chips you have.
The rebuy may cost any amount, but generally costs the same as the original buy-in, and offers you the same number of chips that you got for the original buy-in.
Rebuys are not charged a rake. Therefore, if a rebuy tournament has a buy-in of $10+1, then the rebuys will usually be $10 and all $10 of each rebuy will go into the prize pool.
The prize pool and payoffs will not be announced until the rebuy period ends, since the prize pool increases with each rebuy.
Note that many of the rules described above are "typical" or "normal". The exact details for each tournament will always be posted in the tournament's lobby.
Deep Stacks
In the lobby, an "add-on" is normally available which is labeled as a "Deep Stacks" event. This indicates that each player starts with more chips than usual. The starting stack for most Deep Stack events is 5,000 chips. Blinds for this are normally the same as they are for a regular My Poker Site tournament, so each player is allowed more opportunities for play throughout the event. As well as a deeper-than-normal starting stack, most Deep Stack events include 30-minute intervals between levels. Normally, the interval between changes in levels on My Poker Site is 15 minutes.
